Comments

As many of you have already seen, streamer Simon “Mad Ani” has posted on the EVE-O forums that he wants CCP to hire him fulltime as a streamer.

That forum post can be found here.

I assume there’s going to be a shit storm in the comments below this, and if it’s possible, can you keep things of why and why not for him being hired in the forum post, so that:

1. We don’t have to deal with a flame war (for once)

2. If you want him to be hired or not, posting there will have more influence than posting it here.

Personal Opinion

Personally, I don’t want CCP to hire Mad Ani, on the basis that hiring him is just a bad idea. I have my reasons, which you can read on my post in that forum, which will be linked below, but here’s a basic recap of them now:

1. He’s not the most versed in EVE, and doesn’t know what’s going on a lot of the time.

2. He doesn’t care about his viewers that much, and when someone new tunes into the stream that may have no idea what EVE is about, he tells them he doesn’t want to repeat himself, and then on occasion bans them / mutes them.

3. He was begging for money at one point so he can get a better PC for a “higher quality stream,” he now has new excuses as to why he can’t get higher quality streams, which basically makes him look like a tard.

4. Unlicensed music. It doesn’t sound like a big thing, but if he works for CCP, anyone can complain to UMG and CCP could face a lawsuit for using unlicensed music to make a profit. (Thanks Ani)

Those are the big four reason I have as to why he shouldn’t be allowed to work for CCP.

The Public’s Opinion

From what I’ve read on the forums, there are a few people that have tried to defend Ani in wanting CCP to hire him, and have said that they would like CCP to do it as well. A good chunk of the comments are something like this:

“lol. no.

1) Beg for a PC fund keeps casually growing then seems to stall just before it’s 3rd or 4th target for a few days
2) Ask in channel if stream revenue goes towards new PC fund = removed and banned from channel
3) Slide show of an undock with rude / no commentary is not interesting.
4) Now he has a new PC paid for by the White Knights of the Round Table of Ani he finds new excuses why he can’t get good footage
5) Unlicenced music
6) In game ISK prizes for subscribing with real money. Sounds like RMT to me.

If you want a job, send a CV to a recruiter or something. Starting a petition just screams for attention, it’s embarrassing.

Also: Claimed 24/7 stream is offline.” – Ithica Hawk

I could quote a lot more than just that one, but it was short and to the point about what a lot of others are saying.

The ones that support him, all basically have the same argument as well.

1. Ani brings more people to the game (no doubt he does).

2. He helps newer players, etc.. (He does, sometimes if he doesn’t get mad at being asked a question).

3. He gives things out, which makes this more of a “2b.” sort of number, but oh well.

So, there’s a good argument for both sides, but the only issue is that, no matter how much the ones that want Ani to join CCP, the ones who don’t will always be right that his music is unlicensed, and since he asks for money i.e. subs and donations, he could be sued for copyright infringement.

So, love him or hate him, that’s purely your choice. But the fact of the matter, is that both sides are technically correct on this matter, but it’s more so who has a harder point to argue against. Which, I think a lot of people can agree, like me, you would rather not see CCP Mad Ani, because all that will happen is he will treat more people like he’s better than him, etc..

After enough “trolling” as he calls it in both his twitch chat and the forums, he decided that if you ever want to talk to him on his stream you had to subscribe to it. Here is a screen shot from his stream a few nights ago when he made it submode only, because he couldn’t take the opinions of people on the forums.

The Story

The community of Mad Ani’s twitch channel (the ones that are there a loooooooot) decided that Ani should make a petition to CCP to hire him as a full time streamer. I can see where this might be a good thing for CCP. If they have a dedicated streamer, it allows a lot more people to be involved in the sandbox that is known as EVE, and allows a lot more to happen in the terms of events in-game. If anyone’s been reading the thread, which by the way, it’s still growing a lot, you’ll see there are a fair amount of people that want Ani to be CCP or not.

I don’t mind people applying to CCP for jobs from the community (it makes sense, since the players will know best on what needs to happen a lot of the time), but there’s a webpage that is made specifically for applying for a job at CCP, and it lists all their jobs that they have open. But, the way Ani went about doing it, was making a forum post that came off (and looked like) he was begging CCP for a job as a streamer. Sure, it was his viewers ideas, but he can at least make a resume like a normal person, and apply like everyone else would, rather than asking CCP on forums to hire him.

The idea itself was good, but his ways didn’t justify or account for what he wanted in the end of it all.

Onto the more controversial things. As everyone knows, there was a huge issue with SOMER about RMT. They would give you a free 200m isk on their site, if you used them as a retailer of PLEX. After enough complaining from the public, that practice was shut down, and on the somer site itself, it says that CCP requested that it was to end.

CCP defines “RMT” as being paid real money (which somer got a partial amount of the money from the purchase of GTCs) and in-turn giving people in-game items or isk (which is what the site basically does). In Ani’s case. He flaunts on stream about his RMT abilities. He has a banner saying he’s received about $4000 USD in “donations” and because of these donations he was able to give away about 45bn ISK worth of things in-game.

If you think about it real quick, whenever he is donated money, he uses part of it to fund these in-game prizes, which to a lot of people, can be seen, and is being seen as a form of RMT. If this is really RMT it would be CCP’s decision if they should consider it RMT or not. If it is considered RMT, the fate of Mad Ani’s stream rests in the hands of CCP.

Whenever CCP tries to hire somebody from the gaming community everyone around goes apeshit with the hidden message “why him? why not me?”. Not you because you’re a worthless whining piece of shit and him because he/she is an achiever. Stop crapping in forums, do something and get noticed. Oh wait… you can’t…

Sometimes i look at RMT the same way i look at pirated games: can be hurtful to the company but can help alot to promote the product. Some sites and blogs, to a certain degree, are making money off eve online because the income comes from adds…because well there’s no other income source that i know off on that business. Obviously Mad is making buck out of eve online but advertising for CCP and actually and indirectly creating content in EVE. After seeing CCP Minitits on the pedestal i honestly would not mind if he became an employee. Btw posted wrong on the other thread :(

fights (unless you’re taking part of course). There will be no neutral
point of view, no amazing camera angles, cinematic views and a laid back
approach to showing the world about PVP on these large scales.”

So…he wants to be hired, so he gets paid to stream, instead of having to go to work. But if it werent for the guys fighting, he wouldnt have anything to stream. In that thought, the same people he streams, should be CCP employee’s also. That way they can stay home and fight, and not have to leave for work. We can all be CCP employee’s!!

Also, he is hardly neutral. There is favoritism for NC. To which he was all butthurt about, when he got kicked, whining about it.

I’m indifferent on him getting hired but in terms of unlicensed music, don’t include this in any argument. He is streaming podcasts which become public once you make them into podcasts. This is why DJ’s create their own podcasts to get interest in their music to as many people as possible.

Is live streaming good for Eve ? Yes. And Ani deserves credit for
doing it in the 1st place. (And he probably got already benefits in
    return).

Could his stream be better ? Yes.

Would CCP support help ? Yes.

Should CCP support a live stream ? I vote yes as it improves Eve exposure. This falls under marketing/community management.

Is Ani the right guy for that job ? That’s another question.

PS : I know younger generations will change many things in the work field and already in the community management businness new approaches at marketing yourself are common, but that job application seems very ill prepared and the result of poor judgement. IMO Should have done it differently (less public).

Deserves credit for it? People have been streaming their own content through Twitch long before Ani showed up. The only reason he gets those big spikes in viewers is because he is leeching other peoples content.

No other streamer that makes their own content has been supported as much as him and they work for what they do.

I think it’s debatable about how many new players he brings in. I think it’s fair to assume that the times he gets the most viewers that don’t already currently play the game is when there is some huge fight, and it is always in TiDi. Does anyone honestly think people that have never played the game before find a fight that is going at 10% of normal speed interesting, or that it looks fun? I think it’s just as likely that those people go back to whatever their favorite game happens to be at the time, and tell all of their friends how stupid EVE looks. TiDi makes EVE look bad in reality, not good.

Well, you can’t deny there have been at least a few new players brought in by him, but the real question is that how many of those “new players” are actually new, and not just alts that people used his referral link for?

Oh, and Tidi beats black screening in my honest opinion. That was terribad a long time ago, and I don’t want to relive it. And I think a lot of people agree with me on that.

What the game was before is not relevant, what I am talking about is what the game currently looks like when he is streaming, TiDi doesn’t make the game look fun, and TiDi is by and large what new players see when they tune in to Ani’s channel. Think about it. Before they hired her EN24 used to post her videos here.
Ever since then i haven’t heard anything from her again (not playing Dust myself).
So i see this as a win!

Oh maybe if he shows his dick that gives him bonus points like it did for mintchip I see no differences between him and Mintchip Except one has been banged by more CCP employees than the other or have given BJ or Hand Jobs to CCP empoyees than the other I wonder can you guess which one?

See I dont get this at all if they Hire Mad Ani. Blizzard might as well pay Swifty for playing world of warcraft. Its a game and he livestreams does not mean he needs to get paid for it. Mad Ani does not even play the game anymore and he does not even whats going on in the fight except from the blobs on his screen. O they just warped to a Ping. Well No shit Mad Faggot. Also btw he needs to stop begging for money on his stream because he clearly violates all of CCPs RMT rules.

providing eyes on staging stations is barely what i would call a stream with eve as a subject matter its more like a screen saver with some intel for people who play

Why is this music thing such a huge deal? He can just play EVE music if it’s CCP’s stream. He can probably play EVE music right now. He doesn’t have to play any music at all, and let viewers play music to their own liking, while listening to Ani’s commentary, if any.

He claims to be a DJ, and he says that he plays this (techno/electronica) because he is said DJ. Which, in this case, it’s unlicensed music, and I doubt he’d change that to comply with CCP rules, rather he’d do what he’s always been doing since it’s easier for him, and he believes a lot of his fans actually like it (which they might, who knows). And Remember, this is Ani, do you really think he’ll follow CCP rules if he’s begging for a job?

I like Ani and his streams but I don’t why he should work for CCP because in the end. all he does is go somewhere. cloak and stream. It’s not really that hard… just like mintchip read shitposts from EN24 and TMcom into a camera. I cannot see where CCP would benefit from hiring mad_ani. He seems to have organizational talent and a pretty big attention span. Maybe let him organize the CCP ingame events to make them less horrible. There are people that ccp could benefit more from tbh. I’d hire Mr.Vee for example. a Veteran Eve Player that knows whats up and what the null sec community for example needs.

ccp used to have regular eve tv streams – didn’t work out too well, so they stopped, now why would they hire some amateur (who is quite annoying) for the same thing?

and the argument “1. Ani brings more people to the game (no doubt he does).”… so he should sign up for the affiliate program, and benefit from that (yes, that actually pays quite well)

Like I should’ve said in the post itself, (I’ll go edit it later) but he does bring new people into the game, but how many are actually new, and not people using his referral link to sign up their alts?

Tell me you are kidding.. He plays unliscensed music (read:copyright lawsuit), He begs for money, and to top it off, he really has little clue as to exactly what he is streaming.
Also, I would not exactly call him unbiased.

Are CCP members allowed to accept ‘donations’ ?
If this isn’t allowed; please CCP, hire this kid so his streams will be enjoyable without all of the begging he does.

Maybe. But I think he can still receive donations for something that’s unrelated to the game or his job itself. So like, he could beg for a new fedora if he wanted in all honesty.

I like the concept of what Ani does, watching fights streamed live gives me a better idea of what’s going on with the alliance/coalition I’m in. Personally I don’t like the near-constant money grubbing, you can’t go 30 minutes on his stream (unless it’s that period where he’s sleeping/afk) where he’s not encouraging people to subscribe, knocking people with AdBlock because they’re putting a damper on his income, or saying something along the lines of “hey guys, if you want to donate to the stream you can do it in real life or in game by…”. I mean yes, the man hopes to see some money back out of something he’s investing in and I really can’t blame him, that’s what EvE is all about (that and blowing people up) but there’s only so far you can go before turning into the Tyra Banks of EvE and I think our dear friend has hit and surpassed that stride.

It’s for that reason that I think, even though a streaming EvE site would be interesting, Ani is not our man. Not yet.

Before I would consider ‘voting Ani into CCP employment’ I’d want to see a little more from him. Showing up for smaller fights, finding some fresher music, and doing a little more research into the ongoing war than browsing The Mittani and E24 would go a long way. Leaving a stream running whilst AFK is all well and good if you’re asleep, but if he wants a 24 hour crowd he’s going to have to please it. Doing a live DJ session here and there during quiet times, dropping some beats, talking about something other than ‘feed me please’, there’s a myriad of OTHER things that could be added to the channel to improve it. Popping a Q and A with some big EvE names, interviewing interesting alliances (that haven’t been flogged to death by mainstream EvE media please), or even following around a small gang looking for good fights (obviously with the system info and whatnot turned off) are good starts. A little more creativity and effort would go a long way towards making me turn off my AdBlock while visiting, hell… if it gets good enough I might even subscribe.

For one, before voting Ani into CCP employment, I would like to see him apply for a job without begging on the forums for one. I would also like to see him not be a total douche to a lot of the newer viewers that don’t know what’s going on and ask questions about it. I would also love to see him actually explain what’s happening, and if he doesn’t know, he shouldn’t try to bullshit it to his viewers.

      That is all.

No, this guy brings no content to the game, he contributes nothing more than a cloaky scout would, anyone can stream a game and go afk for hours. Infact hiring him would indirectly harm the already tainted community, we’d have swarms of people trying out pointless shit like this and other mediocre “community contributions” just to try and get a paycheque and a job with CCP. There is no reason to hire him, it will effect the game in no way, he’d still just do nothing but stream, and even then he’d be less motivated to since he’d be getting payed regardless of whether or not he kept his stream up to scratch, which might i add, is terrible quality. Let’s not have another Mintchip.

Just pointing out that Rubicon is going to integrate Twitch native to EVE Online – so Mad Ani will be ‘out of business’ – may be the reason for the sudden ‘petition’ (pft) for CCP to hire him?
