Amid all the trash talking in the game, all the chest beating, and all the trolling, let’s take a break and thank those who actually make all that possible. I’m not talking about CCP, though they make the game. EVE is unique in the gaming world in that it relies exclusively on the players to create their own content, however, this is something that all of us, even myself, take for granted.

I wanted to take a few moments and give some due credit to all those in this game that help make it what it is. The truth is that we would not have anyone to smack talk, no space to play in, no poses to hide in, and no station to spin in if the few people in the game who manage those networks left. There would be no fleets to fight if there were no FC’s, and there would be nothing to fight over if the CEO’s, alliance leaders, scouts, and spies did not find stuff for the FC’s to do. These people actually work in a video game instead of play it, and they make it possible for thousands to have fun.

POS Workers/Managers

These people have chosen to help their group out by anchoring towers in space, putting fuel inside a fuel bay, and playing SimCity with the pos mods. This is one of the most un-appreciated roles I have seen in EVE, and I just wanted to thank all of you who do this. Thank you for taking time out of your life to make sure the thousands of players who rely on POS networks have content. Keep up the work, and maybe one day CCP will actually make it better for you. It may not take much time to run fuel out to a tower; however, the real work comes in with setting it up and running the entire POS network. Before complaining about it being easy, if your POS guy quit would you be willing to run the network yourself? I don’t even know who does that for the corp I am in, yet I use towers all the time.

Thank you for what you do, and I would like to give a special thank you to my CEO, White Aero, the head Panda. Seriously, though, CEO/Directors have to solve problems, mostly drama, handle corp business, and a host of other things–and they do it at the expense of actually playing the game. There are many CEO/Directors who are accused of being inactive/AFK but in reality they are simply busy managing the actual work that it takes to run a corp and don’t actually have time to undock and have fun. They literally work a job in a game….for you! If you have a chance to actually talk to you CEO amide all his/her meetings tell them thank you. Without these managers and organizers EVE would be in a sad shape.

Fleet Commanders

FC’s are loved when winning and hated when losing. However, if people were not willing to actually command fleets then it would be very difficult to get players together and focused on a common goal. Having someone who wants to deal with the hassle of setting up and running fleets is a huge bonus in ensuring EVE players have something to do. It’s easy to get mad at an FC for losing ships, but try growing and learning with your FC instead of bringing him down for mistakes. Thank you to all of you who take out fleets–even though you know what will happen if you make a mistake.

Fleet Support

Thank you to those who step up and help the FC and the fleet. You guys/gals are there, sitting in a staging system, scouting ahead of fleet, bubbling, making pings, scanning, boosting, etc. and you miss out many times on the main action. However, you are no less important to ensuring that the main action actually happens. A very special thank you to the logistic ship pilots who ensure that the fleet lives as long as possible. There are many fleet doctrines based off of alpha volley in an attempt to render logi un-effective, and that speaks volumes about how important it is. Logi pilots are loved when they rep in time, and hated when the reps don’t hold. Either way, thank them because it would be a lot worse if they were not there. Thanks again to everyone who helps support the fleets.

Alliance Leadership

These are the real movers and shakers in the game. They take everything mentioned above and attempt to bring it together in some cohesive, organized form (some are more successful than others). They have to deal with all kinds of drama, stress, problems, and management situations. Take some time and thank your alliance leaders (thank you, Vince) for what they do as it is not as easy as it looks. Alliance leaders cause massive amounts of EVE content with their decisions. They can get thousands of players into a war they lose, which could cost their group everything, but they can also help thousands of players get into a war they win. They make all kinds of decisions in an attempt to make something of their name and their group and these decisions change the face of EVE and write gaming history.

Burned Out

Many leaders, I would dare say all, get tired eventually. This causes them to take a break and get “burned out”. This leaves a power vacuum when a CEO quits, and can cause a fail cascade when an Alliance CEO quits. One leader anywhere in an organization that gets burned out can affect thousands of player’s gameplay. Thankfully, many of these leaders come back after taking a break, and I am constantly amazed with EVE being the where people leave and then back. My biggest point to make here is simple. If you are a leader and need a break…take one….don’t let it get to the point where you are burned out. Members should understand if you need a break, and you will not be so bitter after one then if you get completely burned out.

Thanks again!

EVE lives and dies on player created content. Thank you to those of you who have chosen to help be part of that content cycle. I hope you continue to do so, even through the hard times, the slow times, and the tired times.

Dotlan could be improved quite a lot though. It needs to be more strategic and intelligent and then it would be more useful to FA. The simplistic way it is set up probably works if you are a goon I would guese but for player like FA trying to get more out of EvE it doesn’t quite cut it.

I will resume my subscription when they delivery at last half what is asked… that may be never… But since there is always hope I will continue checking the evenews whille playing other games… or maybe I just need a long, long rest….

Some CEOs in coalitions work harder than others though…. In our coalition we have a large alliance that holds a huge amount of map that has got very lazy and at this point is really very useless. But then there are other alliance in EvE like FA, just for example, who seem to do all the important work and carry the others.

we need more content creators to be honest and I agree with the article these selfless guys are the life blood of any alliance / corp. They deserve the big up and they make our game happen. It would be nice to see some true personalities come back to the game though. You know true hero’s like dogbuttdolgla, general windypops, Butterdog, LordDragonMP5 or maybe some crusty old clown like Sir Molle. Lets be honest we all need a focus to hate and those jokers will give us that in spades. Also the current set of bad guys find it hard to type let alone become a hate figure. Vince Draken well he all noise no bite, PGL ok but look at is girlfriend twice and he will scream and scream and scream until you internet sandcastle collapses, Shadoo does not play anymore and even if he did he does not have an alliance behind him to back up his deranged mumblings. They are all quite fail and are more comedy villains than anything to get worked up about. The content is not the same anymore, but I guess that’s the price to pay when you’re on top all the time.

I am a miner and manufacturer and I have no delusions about my worth. I know that I am but a small pixel of a peck of a huge wast canyon and therefore, pretty meaningless.
But without all those pecks, that canyon would not be so huge and magnificent, no matter how many people you put in charge of managing it.

Don’t forget about your Recruiters and Human Resource people (other than CEOs). The people who do the tireless job of checking the background of recruits, resolving conflict within the corp, and actually getting new recruits up to speed and fully integrated into said corp (This can be a major issue, and key to solving a disconnect between the old members and the new ones).

Could this be done by a CEO/Director, yes, but they have much more work to do…
