Today CCP announced that BLINK was appointed the task of doing a lottery. This is not just a lottery with normal prices. No this time the prices are Guardian-Vexors and Gold Magnates. These ships are special and were given out as prizes for tournaments. CCP and Somer BLink might be pleased but the reaction of the community is pretty clear.

This statement was taken from one CCP dev’s posts. CCP believe that SomerBlink is 100% Trustworthy. This may be the case in their eyes but others have produced significant reason to question SomerBlink’s legitimacy. Many blogs explain how the SomerBlink operation works and you will be surprised with what some have found. This is a very good example of one of those blogs.

Below is just a summary of the findings on the blog:

– Lying about statistis
– Huge profits
– Shill Players
– Fake players
– Damage Blink does to current EVE Economics.

After reading this information, I find myself questioning the statement of CCP Navigator, claiming that BLINK is one of the most trusted EVE projects out there.

Reaction of other organisations.
“most trustful eve player” Chribba took notice of CCP’s decision and took it to the forums. posting the following;

Please don’t reintroduce ships like this. There was one, it was blown up, let it stay that way. That’s what makes EVE so great, it becomes a huge part of the lore and history!

Also I’m interested in what type of agreement there is between CCP and SOMER (I wouldn’t be surprised if you say it’s between you guys…) seeing as by the looks, you’re donating these rare ships, which I am sure will gather A LOT of attention, which in turn will be tons of people giving SOMER their ISK for a chance to win.

The ISK betted will be returned to CCP Games or kept by SOMER Blink? Congrats to SOMER Blink for landing the opportunity though, but CCP games should rethink the items they are giving away, specially because giving out items they said were gone forever is just bad (and I know you can change your mind at any time and reintroduce things – as you just sorta did – but that doesn’t make it a smart move).

Earlier today it was announced that CCP will contribute/sponsor SOMER Blink’s EVE Vegas event/festivities. Cool! Community engagement! Great idea!

What is not so great about this idea, from mine and many others view is that some of the prizes CCP gives Blink to hand out, two Gold Magnates and three Guardian-Vexors.

These ships, given out many years ago carries history and lore. The only Gold Magnate to be awarded was lost in combat shortly after, thus suddenly some 9 years later, deciding to essentially ignore the history it came with seems like a fail move to me. Same goes for the Guardian-Vexors.

I’m not alone feeling this and as many as possible should voice their opinion on the matter (even if you don’t agree with not giving out these ships).

I’m not at all against the idea of CCP sponsoring events, just not with THESE ships since they are a part of the history that we call New Eden!

As Chribba pointed out Somer Blink would be making money from this lottery. The amount would be trillions and trillions of isk. It seems weird to me that players get basically handed ‘free isk’ to host a lottery. It would have been fine if these ships still existed within eve and Somer Blink had been auctioning them after purchasing the ships of players who had worked hard to obtain them. But now CCP just gives them the Somer Blink and nobody knows where they will go. Forgetting the isk part for now, what if the winner of the lottery are Somer Blink alts, who will 100% guarantee us that everything gets sorted like it should.

Many other player based organisations reacted shocked about the announcement. They have not had any help from CCP nor have CCP got in contact with these organisations. Somer Blink is known for their sponsoring (even for some ex players that now are working for CCP).

My Opinion:
CCP made a huge mistake here. The ships that they want to give out are special edition. These ships are very expensive and some even don’t exist anymore. Ships like these have cost players a lot of time and effort to obtain and so by printing a couple extra lowers the prestige earned by these players. EVE is a game that is played with the following mindset: Once I lose a ship or any item it’s gone. So printing extra ships of a ‘special edition’ ship just doesn’t feel good. By picking a player run organisation to handle the lottery they’ve created a taste of favoritism towards, in this case; Somer Blink. I myself have always had mixed feelings about Somer blink. Now they have stated that they are going to use the money to sponsor others, while this sounds fair it still isn’t; its indirectly helping people from ‘free isk’ while others actually put time and effort in and lets not forget THEIR OWN HARD EARNED ISK. I would advise CCP not to go through with this because even going thus far has been a mistake. If they would have done the lottery themselves then it would have been a different story but but even that would involve firing up the ship printer, a direction CCP and EVE should not be heading in.

Hopefully CCP can smash the ship printer to many pieces and rethink their decision and stop this from happening.

I am offended by the mere notion of CCP handing out rare ships to Somer Blink… just because they’re Somer Blink. Fuck that.

CCP didn’t learn from the lesson taught (and how!) by their own game. TRUST NO ONE.

i remember during the big end draws of the quadrillion celebration they had to redraw numbers frequently because in a field of hundreds of thousands the same numbers kept coming up. I never complained and i still blink, but their random is flawed.

Ever occur to you that it wasn’t the same number, but the same player? You were only allowed 1 prize, but people had multiple tickets. Some had huge amounts of tickets, which makes it very likely to be drawn more then once if there are lots of prizes. As an example, I’ve personally held 10-12% of the tickets to some bonks and minibonks, last I checked I had about 4% of the tickets to the current blast.

I’d be far more concerned if they didn’t have to redraw any numbers at all.

I would be suprised if Somerblink got to keep the isk that was made from these ships. If CCP is thking that isk out of the game, it would actually be a very good way to combat inflation. I don’t really care if 2 or 3 ships are made out of thin air to be honest.

This is literally favoritism for one group.

I can HONESTLY see a major RMT scandal happening soon!

Especially when the “higher ups” in SOMER Blink are soon to be quiting EVE with college/university almost done. Must not forget a spi that got their hands into that honey pot

The next few weeks are going to be REALLY EXCITING!

This has bad written all over it. Its one thing for ccp to run this themselves although even that would be in bad taste, I feel badly for those that bought a guardian vexor for 50b+. However ccp is handing this over to a third party that will be making profit? no, no and no, although I WOULD like to see some ships that were going out of existence be reintroduced to the game the third party thing irritates me :/. in reality CCP should remove “guardian vexor” from market and introduce guardian vexor mk2 this way those who own an original guardian vexor wont get so screwed and all those like me who would enjoy playing with a state issue raven may get the chance one day.

Somer Blink is CCP isn’t it?

Massive ISK sink, no accountability, sock puppet, shill winners…

Add onto that plausible deniability and you have a perfect setup!

I don’t have a problem with this at all. I think it’s great to give someone a shot at owning something that formerly was impossible.

I also think it’s cool that CCP acknowledges 3rd parties and works with them. I wouldn’t necessarily trust the Blink guys. I don’t know that they’re untrustworthy, but I don’t know that they are either so I don’t trust them, even if I don’t distrust them either. I don’t play Blink just as I don’t buy lotto tickets or go to the casino; none of those operations are set up to give away money. I only gamble if the odds are in my favor, which isn’t at all what most of whatpeople call “gambling.” Whether in Eve business or real business I gamble all the time, but only when the statistics line up. What all this uproar really shows though is a dark side of people. It’s the old bucket of crabs analogy again. Many people can’t stand it if another person makes money, or, apparently, even ISK. Yeah, Blink will make a fortune from this. No, they didn’t “work” for it, CCP apparently just gave the ships to them (so far as we know). What’s the problem? Why is something good happening to someone else something bad? Good for them. Those ships are so ultra-rare it’s not like the value is going to decrease (assuming in some cases that any even exist). If anything the publicity might make things even more expensive; some people in the market might just not think there’s any for sale and not even look. Some ultra-rich players might not even be aware they exist. There’s nothing wrong with giving a gift to someone. Unless it’s to someone else and you’re so totally consumed with jealousy right down to the core, which I suspect describes about 59% of people alive today.

Be happy for someone if they make it big, whether in dollars or ISK, whether through hard work or luck. Be in the 26%.

( if you were wondering the other 15% are retarded and don’t understand the premise)
