It seems like CCP Soundwave’s departure to Riot Games (of League of Legend fame) isn’t going to be the only high profile poached into Santa Monica’s headquarters, today Arnar Hrafn Gylfason also know as CCP Zulu announced his departure to the House of LoL:

You might remember CCP Zulu as the dev who come out along The Mittani at the conlusion of the Monocle gate scandal. As always is sad to see a Dev depart EVE Online, yet we wish the best of lucks to Zulu in his new post.

Goonswarms Dev are leaving, is this a warning sign of what might be on the horizon?

Are they just dropping ship for an impending EA invasion?

Did CCP Mintchip stop giving Devs and GMs head?

What will be the future of GSF RMT operations with no one to protect them.

EVE is not a game for EA. way to complex for the mass market.

EAsy fix. They will dumb it down enough for your grandmother to play it, make it play2win, and voila! Oceans of cash for them to swim in.

I mean come on, do you REALLY think they haven’t noticed what Activi$ion did with WoW?

Ive worked in the game industry , as a creative director at activision in los angeles, and therefore not in europe in the ‘outback’ of the industry, and i just want to say that people jumping around companies in these media industry jobs is so important and good for your career, that its actually the guys who stay at CCP without leaving for more than five years that you should really be more appropriately sceptical of.

They won Eve. Or perhaps something was found out and in typical fashion certain devs have been asked to leave. Tinfoil is available in the lobby giftshop. Enjoy your stay.

    CCP employee here:

Zulu and Soundwave were both in a camp in the company that believes that F2P is inevitable and that the next few xpacs should pave the wave for a 2015 F2P release. They had collaborated on a proposal that was shot down by the rest of the design team who believe that the game will continue to grow in sub numbers and that there aren’t any other viable contenders in the genre to warrant the redesign.

There’s some talk that is Sony buys us out, then we’ll be going F2P anyway, but these two didn’t want to see CCP go F2P under SOE.

As a long time eve player Id like to say this.
15.00$ is worth the enjoyment I get from eve and MOST of your customers agree. At this moment in time CCP has no real competition so no reason to debate F2p imo. With the absence of some older devs you guys have a chance to recruit newer lively creative individuals to push eve further! These two leaving only shows they were not in it for the long haul and perhaps this is for the best.

ps DO NOT SELL OUT TO SONY PLS :) *they got a way of screwing things up*

understandably your probably a grunt if even a ccp employee, but thought id share my 2 cents and perhaps make a worthwhile shot in the dark.

If they wait for any real competition to appear to consider F2P model, then it will be too late. 40-50k avr player logged in, is nothing

      I’m all for a F2P model.

There should be “boosters” like in Dust, but they should instead activate passive training in the way that EVE’s system currently works. You don’t buy a booster (read: PLEX or sub), your training pauses, but you can still fly around, earn ISK (through grinding or firesale), blow stuff up, etc.

Also, not subscribing should limit the ability to interact too widely with the market. Selling things to buy orders should be fine, but placing a sell order should require a sub otherwise the economy could get really broken.

To limit multiboxers from running 10 free falcon alts, limit the amount of open “free” accounts to 1, just like the trial.

Edit: I know a bunch of buddies that would give the game a chance if they didn’t have to sub a month at a time. Breaking up a PLEX into day passes could be good, too, just like the Dust boosters.

Path for CCP if Sony does follow through with a buyout.

1: Goodbye Dust. Eve will become part of Sony Online Entertainment and SOE’s PS2 is better established in both Day to Day player count and is just breaking into Pro gaming. Its been better recieved by both users and reviewers and is making a profit. Dust isn’t doing any of that. Plus why would Sony keep 2 competing products running?

2: EVE: Valkyrie wont be an EVE game. It will be rebranded, repackaged and turned into a PS4 exclusive.

3: Good news: No way in hell will Sony ever let RMT run riot like it does. The game will turn F2P and Botters will finally be put out of business. Bad news: There will be only 1 group making money in the new F2P Eve…Sony. You got the Auraxium, You can buy anything. From Rifters to Titans, you have the cash Sony sells it. There is no way Sony would turn down a money faucet like that. You can also say goodbye to Dr. Guðmundsson (CCP’s in house Economist for those out of the loop.)

4: HTFU will become Dont worry Noobie we’ll protect you. They wouldnt want to scare away the money now would they?

Starting to believe those Devs that recently left were simply told they were no longer part of CCP`s future plans. “We wont fire you but…if you dont find a job somewhere else soon, you`ll be asked to leave.”

Relax people. One dev leaving is normal. Two so close together can be written off as coincidence / good poaching by Riot. Now…if we get a 3rd who leaves in a period of time close to these two, then the speculation can begin.

Besides, one of the ones leaving was the a chief spy for goons, so ANYONE they replace him with is a step up.

That being said, I would love to have heard the skype/phone call when soundwave told the failed lawyer soundwave was leaving CCP.

“Oh hai! our subscription numbers aren’t looking good thx to Goon ‘meta-gaming’. Find another job soon or you will just be fired. o7 fly safe!”
