Check out the mission profile for the NASA proposed Asteroid Redirect Mission, which looks pretty cool:

The idea is to be able to capture and study an asteroid which may or may not contain unobtainium. Hopefully this pretty cool three week-long operation will be able to see the light of the day…

They have to loop that music for the entirety of the mission, just to make sure the world is properly captivated. And so when something goes wrong they will have the perfect soundtrack.

This mining barge look have a very poor mining yield per hour.

And no mining drone in help. Strange, because the Hayabusa mining drone works well.

I find the problem is two fold.

The earth has too many problems, it seems wasteful to spend money when people around the world are starving. Yet money on the earth is wasted anyway on a lot less important crap everyday.

HOWEVER at the same time, its humanity`s destiny to explore space. And who knows we might make way more than we could ever possibly imagine doing more in space.

Maybe one day space could be the answer to all of our problems here on earth.

The NASA budget was only 048% of the 2012 Fiscal year budget of the Federal Gov’t. If anything we should be spending more on NASA and not less.

I agree, spending more money on useing the term loosly “space exploration” is the step in the right direction, if we are all stuck on this rock we are all gonna end up sending each other back to the stone age sooner or later.

And as for people starving… well they shouldn’t procreate and add to the problem, let them starve its natures method of population control.

Actually they should keep procreating but on other planets/moons. Imagine claiming all of the solar system in less than a century.

Honestly all the fuel we need is in our upper atmosphere, we just need to get a refinery up there. Not only would we have all the fuel we would need, we would also be able to generate water from the gases in the upper atmosphere. We could additionally provide the majority of the compounds needed to sustain the life of crops in space. We have the tech all we need is the funding.
