It seems like CCP Kakur isn’t done yet with the Odyssey UI and this is of course a good thing, there was plenty room for improvements and as the following dev post shows, CCP seems to be tuning up the whole UX:

Hi all,

In Odyssey 1.1. my team, Team Pony Express, will be adding the Radial Menu here and there, and also making a few other changes to it. We have also been working on some other small UI changes:

Radial Menu added to:

Members in Fleet Watchlist
Fleet members (oopsOops, I forgot to add it to the flat list, will fix )
On squares in route
On system name in “next in route” (radial menu for the stargate there, allows you to jump to the system)
Bookmarks in People & Places (or window popped out from one of the bookmark folders)
Bookmarks in system map

Changes we are making for the Radial Menu:

Added a small icon on Radial Menu options that are range options so it’s clearer they are different
Added indicators to show what item the radial menu is open on (for brackets it’s a whitish cirlce, entries in list it’s a highlight)
Set Destination is now primary action for Asteroids, Stations, Solarsystems, Moons, Planets, Stargates when they are not in current system (accessible through bookmarks in People & Places)
Removed “Bookmark” from Drones
Fixed duplicate options on Drones
Warping to fleet members now works
If the clicking time is very short and the mouse does not move in that time(=radial menu is not used), the click will register as a click (for example to select a target when Radial Menu delay is 0… which is btw not recommendedTwisted)
(maybe some other thins i’m forgetting now Blink)

Drone changes:

Drones and dronegroups can be dragged from “Drones in Bay” folder onto “Drones in Local Space” folder to be launched
Drones and dronegroups can be dragged from “Drones in Local Space” folder onto “Drones in Bay” folder to be pulled in
Drones can be dragged into groups (as long as they can be grouped with the ones that are there already)… if the drone and the group you dragged it on are not in the same place, the drone will be launched/picked up and moved to the group
Main drone groups ( “Drones in Bay” and “Drones in Local Space”) will no longer randomly collapse
Opacity of sub groups has been reduced
Sorting of drones and drone groups has been changed… now first all the groupless drones are listed in alphabetical order, and then all the groups (instead of alphabetical order where groupless drones would land between groups).

Other Changes:

Now possible to drag skills from Info windows to skillqueue or any input field such as chat to create a link
Now possible to drag skills from charactersheet to input fields to create a link
Camera movement when jumping has been smoothed out a lot
Attributes and their values in Info windows are now listed in one line, making the values easier to read

We are still working on some things… and when the time is right I will probably update this thread, but until then I should probably not say too much.Blink

      What about group 2 and 3 of the 5 drones to a shortcut. No more manually select 2 drones -> target A and the other 3 drones to target B

        How about dragging and dropping the drones onto the hotbar. Hitting the key and they autolaunch and go after the target you specify. Allow them to be stacked like weapons too or used individually. There are a lot of hotkeys available after all.

      That could be because there isn’t a one-button set-up for drone launch. They would have to program one in and make it so you have to set a default drone group for hotkey launch with every ship you own. And if I understand the EVE codebase, the amount of programming to create this is not trivial. Put all that along side the fact that this isn’t a very pressing issue and it seems fairly unlikely they would spare the coders for such a miniscule feature.

      So could we focus on what we got for once instead of random unimportant stuff we didn’t?

        They have groups, right?

        Can’t you just have a shortcut to launch a group of drones? Then just drag and drop drones into that default group – let’s call that group “drone launch bay”.

          But how many buttons will you have to assign then?
          Let say you do something like ALT + 0-9 for different groups .

          Well I am sure its possible to have more then 10 groups in a carrier.

          And that’s probably the reason why CCP hold on that change …

          I guess it’s very hard to code also, groups already exists… don’t they ??

            easy, a group can be drag & dropped on a button slot, like a weapon / mod

            when you press it, said group is launched / recalled
            you become limited by the number of free slot available on your ship, or the drone group you have.

            also, even for a carrier pilot, this would be enought, you do not have that any group requiring a fast launch option

            +9001 that is an excellent Idea. Basically a macro to launch specific drones. If the drones are lost (and no extras of that type are avail in the reserves section of the bay then the button will not launch drones.

            just have 1 group that launches by hotkey

            solve 99% of the problems

            have it remember what you last had in that bay for hotkey launch, then just drag and drop different groups into you hotkey bay.

            not sure why so hard and why it should take 10 years?

        its not “random unimportant stuff”. all ship functions which are used in combat should have keyboard shortcuts.

        the radial menu is “random unimportant stuff”, they should stop wasting the coders time on that.

      Quiet. Complaining about a 10 year old issue only guarantee’s that they implement drone-launch-animations prior to addressing the problem. You need to be silent so that everyone forgets and CCP thinks ‘they’ came up with the idea.

      +1 OMFG somebody besides me actually uses shortcuts?? and how about , oh i dont know…. a shortcut for D-Scan? oh no, since ppl have to click it every five seconds in order to survive, lets focus on everything else.

      New content is the last thing we need, at least when it comes to ships. (Thanks CCP for breaking the Muninn, Eagle, and all other sniper concepts with the Tornado), First they should fix existing ships and figure out what roles are needed.

      New content is worthless when the UI is so old nobody wants to play.

    So does clicking something in the radial menu actually work, or is it like the right click context menu where you need to repeat the action a couple times in frequent case the eve-client silently said “nah”? Circles, rectangles, triangles, hexagons… It makes no difference to many of us if it’s just as broken as the previous shape.

    Altough every criticism is welcome, i believe its better for you to go to the dev post and put your own solutions/recomendations. Devs are very open to the drone changes: assign to wl and shortcuts.

    Super-huge-giant-radial-menu! o/ Plz, CCP stop messing around the EVE UI with tons of spare pieces… stop waste time with dust and finally begin to build a new UI for EVE, what we have now is simply ’90 style… radial or non radial.

    Click and hold for xx milliseconds = do one action. Just click = something else. TERRIBLE.

    If you update the radial menu plz bring a button to deactivate it from the game completely. Seriously no one needs that pesky thing. I suggest players just use their keyboards to do stuff in eve.

      Don’t know if this helps or not. I moved my radial menu button to my middle mouse button since I never use it. Now I don’t accidentally the whole radial menu while I’m pew pewing.
