As per title, that’s the best way to sum up CCP Rise’s morning post:

We are going to put a small change in for 1.1:

Dominix’s drone tracking and optimal range bonus lowered from 10% per level to 7.5% per level.

This brings the bonus in line with all other damage application bonuses we give, such as turret tracking bonuses or missile explosion velocity/radius bonuses. The Dominix hasn’t been oppressively powerful but it is extremely strong and there is no need for the over-allocation with regards to this bonus.

In case some of you think this is a reaction to the way the Domi performed in the alliance tournament, I can tell you that we will never make balance decisions based on that environment. The tournament certainly highlighted the strengths of sentry drones and damps, which are both powerful on TQ as well, but it removed many of their drawbacks and so it is not an effective way to assess balance or power in normal EVE.

[ Original post ]

As a hardcore Dominix fan, I don’t like this at all and if you don’t agree with Rise, I strongly encourage you to head to that thread and let your voice be heard.

Not to the dim witted and ill informed, no, to the rest of eve its a massive change, the tracking was what made the domi good, hopefully it will put an end to the drop drones assign to FC and go afk doctrines that are springing up across eve, its the most boring fleet i’ve ever been in, absolutely terrible.

Its shit gameplay, its been about forever but its only been a problem since DDA’s, now they are popping up everywhere, it needs to be nerfed, maybe a scaling damage modifier, the more you have assigned the less damage they do, that way there will be less/no tears from the incursion lot.

Even that though is shit, i would turn off the ability to assist altogether.

If CCP ever hires you for the new Fozzie/Rise, I wouldn’t want to be playing in case you ever did get rid of the assist. It’s sentries that’s the problem, not the assist. You don’t get the same problem with other drones so taking away the ability to assist is just damn right stupid.

Damage, range, tracking and signature resolution seem to be on par with some turrets. What exactly is OP about them?

“you just assist walk away instant alpha no way for logi to repsond.”
Interactiveness: Sure, but then again, there are so many things in EVE you can do AFK, why does this one thing need to be nerfed?
No time for logi: Sure, but that is a product of the fleet sizes, not of the sentries themselves. So should we just ban fleets with manpower above a critical limit?

“PVE they auto agress witching target…… its Autopilot for eve.”

Not that I have extensive experience with this as of late, but I believe last time I tried to shoot rats with a drone ship, my drones were rather promptly targeted.

Sentries, Assist a loki, with remote sensor boosting. He locks shoots target down. ITs great dont get me wrong just the scaling of the power is crazy tho
100 man domi fleet, 500 bouncers shooting 1 target at the same time.

Sure they have some advantages over gins but there are also major disadvantages. Sentries can be destroyed unlike guns and sentries are more or less immobile.

It’s not instant alpha. Watch the drones sometime. Each sentry has to rotate to track onto the target. There are multiple youtube videos of mass domi based sentry fleets, to showcase the sentries firing, not en masse but in small groups.
In PvE large drones are aggressively targeted and killed by mission rats. If you let them do their own thing, you’ll lose them all eventually.

The big difference to turrets is that a little bit coordination is still required, and in most cases damage is split because of fags not shooting primaries and/or turret splitting.

Removing drone assist means alt drone assist boats will be highly inefficient so those account will get shut down. Less accounts means CCP will probably not change this.

Sure, its crazy awesome when you rely on a single drone controller. Sure its OP when fucking 800 megas and carriers use that mechanic but 800 man blobs should not dictate how the rest of Eve plays the fucking game. If sentries are so OP then how are 800 megas pressing F1 on 1 guy not OP? Same shit, there is no fucking way you can survive that.

I know null players feel entitled that they play the real Eve. We are all playing the real Eve no matter where we play. If high sec is so shit then why are null players so reliant on it?

When you balance for big scale warfare you are essentially saying that is the only meta that matters. See first point, null player entitlement.

Large scale warfare has its place but there are other forms of PvP, many of which don’t involve hiding behind Concord.

        1. It is what it is

Gameplay-wise, given what’s available, null sec warfare and is simply the most dynamic and challenging end game option in EVE. Well PVP in general is EVE’s end game. That’s how the game is designed. That’s the only part of the game that remains alive and unpredictable after you’ve done everything there is to do.

Personally I would love for them to throw in some more missions with lore and fun lore stuff to find in exploration. Devs seem to think that would work against the pure sandbox emphasis of EVE. I think it would add some fun and flavor to the game as a side thing and it would be a great treat for those of us who dig that kind of thing.

Lore makes solo play interesting. Interesting solo play avoids PVP. So Lore does not sell plex.
Lack of Lore gets ppl bored. Boredom pushs ppl into PVP. PVP sells Plex. Means Boredom sells Plex.
            Frustration sells Plex.
            Idiocy sells Plex.
Awesome gameplay does not sell Plex.
            Awesome ships don’t sell Plex.
            Just as simple.
What do you think CCP wants?
            Your money.
            A easy life.
Decent game in terms of marketing.
In exactly this order. Means not a single moment they do things in player’s benefit. It’s a fucking bussines, not a cantina.

then you sir don’t understand this game. Eve was built on the premise of choice. The butterfly effect, whatever you want to call it. Free will and human nature guide this game. Most use it’s tools for war but some choose to build, or relax. The game designers take all this into account. Remember there are alot more people in high sec then there are pressing F1 in large scale fleet fights.

While i was stoked at getting 10% per level i can see the wisdom in 7.5% Now if we could just make the rats stupid again so they stop eating my drones!

Much needed. The tracking bonus put things a bit out of whack. Currently with 2 tech omnidirectionals, a garde II (supposedly the short range high damage sentries) can project the full damage up to 76 kilometer with enough tracking to easily kill cruisers orbiting @ 5 kilometer.

No weapon system is like that, it’s always either or: long(er) range weapons which can’t hit well at short range or short range which track better but can’t hit far.

The garde II tracking is lots and lots better then similar short range setups that have to rely on guns yes outdamage long range setups.

    August 8, 2013 at 5:32 pm Reply
    1. Snorkle25

Sentry drones are by default long range weapons, the garde drones included since they would be the equivalent of long range weapons with short range ammo (think gleam or javelin). And tracking is crucial for gardes since an unbonuses hull needs two omni-direction really hit anything with garde II. That said, overall, this change isn’t really that big of a deal since you will still get lots of applied drone damage with Gallente battleship V.

The thing that makes them stupid, is the fact that pilots in a large fleet literally don’t do anything after setting assist. You set assist, and assuming there is not an evac you are entirely done for the fight. Eve lacks enough as it is in player skill requirement, why let it get worse?

Nobody cared when it was Slowcats rolling around with massive blobs of assist-slaved sentries, but as soon as that started percolating down to the common man, we have a problem! After all, sitting around afk waiting for something interesting to happen is a standard component of the capital lifestyle.

Well, whatever. Doesn’t change anything. In Fountain, N3 used Bouncers more than Gardes, and this 2.5%/level nerf barely even registers. And never mind the fact that they’re already planning on mothballing Domis come Odyssey 1.1 for the new superior sentry-drone hotness.
