Alright so for HACs (Heavy Assault Cruisers) we had a few goals:

– Increase viability for the worst ships (Eagle, Cerberus, Sacrilege especially)
– Support rather than disrupt current uses (AHACs)
– Make room for new uses when possible

The biggest change here, and the one that affects all 8 ships, is a new role bonus. It is the same one that Assault Ships get, a 50% reduction in Signature Radius Penalty from Microwarp Drives.

We feel this is a really nice fit because it doesn’t boost afterburner variations that are already very strong, but it does add to resilience for most other uses.

On top of that, many of the ships have gotten significant changes to slot layout or bonus. Also be sure to check out the MEDIUM WEAPON REBALANCE as it will have a big impact on HAC perfromance.

Small note: All the weird tiny stat tweaks are just to make the numbers more even (originally a lot of arbitrary randomness was added for the sake of “realism” and we are just cleaning some of that up, which we’ve done for all the recent rebalances.

SACRILEGE


Highlights here would be the increased drone bay, increased PG, and the addition of HML to the Cruiser damage bonus. Hopefully the result is a ship that can more comfortably fulfill its heavy tackle/utility HAC role without sacrificing quite as much as it used to when compared to combat BCs or other HACs. We concede that the cap recharge bonus is a bit strange, but feel the ship actually doesn’t need another standard bonus like damage application or range to make it work.

Amarr Cruiser Bonuses:
5% to Heavy Assault and Heavy Missile damage (added heavy missiles)
4% to all Armor Resistances

Heavy Assault Cruiser Bonuses:
5% reduction of capacitor recharge time
5% bonus to Missile Launcher rate of fire

ZEALOT



Zealot is arguably the most functional currently of the entire group and so it gets the least change.

10% bonus to Medium Energy Turret capacitor
5% bonus to Medium Energy Turret rate of fire

Heavy Assault Cruiser Bonuses:
10% bonus to Medium Energy Turret optimal range
5% bonus to Medium Energy Turret damage

Slot layout: 5H, 3M, 7L; 5 turrets, 0 launchers
Fittings: 1180 PWG, 320 CPU
Defense (shields / armor / hull) : 980(-4) / 2250 / 1670(-18)

CERBERUS



Biggest change here is adding a 6th launcher. Also gets a huge maxVelocity boost so that it can actually kite some to take advantage of the great missile range.

5% bonus to Kinetic Missile damage
10% bonus to Missile velocity

Heavy Assault Cruiser Bonuses:

EAGLE – The Eagle will be a lot better because of the rail change alone, but we’ve also increased its power grid and replaced the utility high with an extra mid slot.

Like the Thorax, Deimos now has 4 mids and gives up the extra high. It also goes faster and aligns faster.

ISHTAR – We are replacing the medium hybrid damage bonus with a drone bonus and removing one high slot to put its total 1 below the rest of the class, as is standard for drone-focused ships.

Gallente Cruiser Bonuses:
10% bonus to drone tracking and optimal range(was 5% bonus to Medium Hybrid Turret damage)
10% bonus to drone hitpoints and Damage

Heavy Assault Cruiser Bonuses:
5 km bonus to Drone operation range per level
50 m3 extra Drone Bay per level

Slot layout: 4H(-1), 5M, 5L; 4 turrets(+1), 0 launchers
Fittings: 700 PWG, 285 CPU

VAGABOND



Like with the Stabber, we are rolling the max velocity bonus into the base stats, and then replacing it with a shield boost bonus. This has nice racial continuity and supports a play-style that has been emerging for the Vaga anyway as a close range active brawler. Please keep in mind that it can still be used exactly the same way that it always has been with virtually no change in performance.

Role Bonus: 50% reduction in MicroWarpdrive signature radius penalty

Minmatar Cruiser Bonuses:
5% bonus to Medium Projectile Turret rate of fire
7.5% bonus to shield boost amount (was 5% bonus to max velocity)

Heavy Assault Cruiser Bonuses:
10% bonus to Medium Projectile Turret falloff
5% bonus to Medium Projectile Turret damage

Slot layout: 6H, 4M, 5L; 5 turrets, 1 launchers(-1)

The Muninn will lose one of its highs and gain a low, which should fit its role as a long range platform extremely well. It also gains a little speed.

5% bonus to Medium Projectile Turret rate of fire
5% bonus to Medium Projectile Turret damage

    Zealot – pretty much spot on. It has always been the go-to ahac
    Cerberus – Addition of drones is great for even more anti-frig work
    Eagle – People still use these?
    Diemost – Good changes but needs to have the mwd cap bonus changed to tracking like the thorax and the fitting buffs are still way too little to fit what we want to
    Ishtar – No pg or cpu boost. Remains a ridiculously difficult hac to fit up. That being said, the drone changes are pretty good
    Vagabond – My ASB vaga fit is now officially the only vaga fit to use 😛
    Muninn – Extra low slot great for better armor tanking

    All around, decent changes but I think aside from a select few hac’s (diemost, cerb and vaga) does anybody actually want a mwd sig bonus? I would’ve thought something like mwd and ab cap usage bonus would’ve been way better since these ships are always strapped for cap.

      I’d love to show you my brawling eagle been using it ever since the ASB came out. way better than a ferox, stupid thing tanks for days the dps isn’t great but its enough to do the job at around 550dps. the range really helps too makes me feel better about the shorter range of blasters when i can hit out to 20k. shame they are taking my nuet away from me.

      They have the speed bonus to the hull, and gave it pretty much a 5th bonus, how is that fucking it? It’s like a whole 5ms slower then before, but ASB tanks 37% better.

        Vagabond was kind of useless before the patch already… That comment should have been used years ago when it was originally nerfed. On top of that tier 3 BCs came in and made it nearly obsolete. The entire point of the Vaga is to be the one HAC with the speed but lack of tank, but its useless now. I have other choices I can do, so Im not worried, but that is a balancing issue that needs to be addressed.

      It does need it. It was always useful to it (same as with the Deimos, though amusingly, that got streamlined away). Not that these changes take that into account, rather, what they are trying to do is keep some check on it so it doesn’t become a complete HML AHAC that will completely outshine all the other HAC in that role, which I am presume is what you are obsessing over.

          In what cases though? The only notable use of the Deimos came from groups experienced enough to utilize the last high-slot.

          That “lot of cases” you refer to was inexperienced pilots making inferior choices. Should we design the game around what the lesser options accomplish?

          Just because your average F1-monkey would rather have a streamlined ship with less buttons to push that doesn’t necessarily make it a superior design-objective. I don’t expect you to understand, but I do expect the developers employed to design the game to understand that. To some degree I guess they do, they’ve just written off that sort of gameplay with the dinosaurs.

          Incidentally, that’s also why I am somewhat sceptical of wether these changes will reinforce some of that gameplay (eg., making this class of ships appeal to risk-taking, small-medium gang, roaming pilots again, to, you know, make them roam) and how the “reinforced HAC roles” hold up against Cruiser, BC and BS gangs of larger size. Though maybe I am just bitter.

        HACs cost 130m and up, and most of them are still bad (Muninn, Sac) or aren’t as good as their T1 counterparts (Deimos)

        Given their work with AFs, T1 cruisers, and BCs, I’m disappointed with these changes.

    Could you please consider giving the ishtar more CPU?
    With lv5 skills it requires both a co-processor II and a medium processor overclocker to fit an extra gun that you have given it.

    No big deal since it is a drone boat, but an empty turret slot is ugly

    Would also like to know some more of the design theory around the assault frigates and the HAC.
    They are clearly meant to run with MWD yet the cap is so low that it is actually impractical to do so. (not to mention that these are tight ships to fit, an AB makes all the difference)
    Can someone tell what is up with that?

    i personally would rather have a 50% AB speed bonus that the MWD bonus.

    All t2 cruisers and frigates having the exact same role bonus is pretty bad. For low sec pvp this is pretty useless as you will be in scram (and neut) range if you are trying to sig tank.

    Lack of originality in ccp is really starting to show.
