As most of you probably know, June was a big month not just for FA, but for me personally – my second kid, a son this time, was born on June 16th. As you can imagine, life has been somewhat hectic at home! It has been a distinct pleasure to see that my efforts to ensure that we have strong, empowered and enabled leaders that can keep things running when I need to be away.

Since near the start of June we have been part of this years big war. We finally get to take months upon months of pent up irritation with the games and provocations of TEST during the previous “cold war” and do something about it. The Skyteam, senior FC team and their logistics colleagues have been doing a great job ensuring we are able to participate with all our might. Things also continue to improve in areas where we have experienced issues. As for our wider membership, you have been showing everyone that FA can still deliver when it comes to raw numbers and participation – I am very proud of you all.

The War

This war begun for a number of reasons, but the primary one is as simple as they come. Recent changes have redrawn the financial map of Eve, and created the very real threat of a season of austerity for those of us that have been living high on Tech riches. R64s have replaced Technetium as the bottleneck for T2 production – so we are taking them from TEST. We have to prevent them from ending up in the hands of greater enemies down the road, and we need the income for ourselves. Despite most of null-sec Eve coming out to fight against us we continue to make progress and inflict punishing losses. We are winning this campaign so far, but we must remain vigilant and committed to ensure ultimate victory. You are all doing a great job showing up to fight so far – the stats show us to generally be in the top 2 or 3 in the CFC depending on your metrics, but lets push for more! Participation will directly impact on our bottom line down the road since it will determine our share of any spoils of war.

Finances

Even though the war is going well so far, we are taking losses. This means that SRF costs are a major factor in our alliance planning right now. While FA has been fairly lucky with regards to already holding large numbers of R64s before the moon goo change came in, the fact is that it will take some time before we can start fully benefiting from that. The market has still not settled on the expected post-Odyssey level of prices, so selling any of it right now would mean losing significant amounts of isk compared to holding out and selling it later. As such, we are having to manage our finances very carefully. Let us be clear – FA is far from broke, we have large stockpiles of assets, both in moongoo and also other pre-Odyssey investments. However it will be some time before these pay off fully, and even once they do it is pretty certain that our total ongoing alliance income will be less than it was before.

This problem is not unique within the CFC, and our allies have all been looking at ways to address the new realities of Eve Online and null-sec financing, with some hard choices being made. The time has come for us to do the same.

What will not be changing right now:

Station refinery tax rates are staying the same at 5% for the time being. We have however nationalised the single refinery station that was not held by the alliance (FIO, which was granted to SMX after a spur-of-the-moment competition was run back when we were consolidating our hold on Fade)
PI / POCO taxes in FA are among the lower rates in the CFC, but for the time being we are leaving them at 7.5%

What will be changing:

The program whereby we sold moon goo to corps for reactions at a discount was suspended. As the prices of R64s settle, we will soon reinstate some version of it, but it will probably have a smaller discount.
R16 and (to a lesser extent) R32 moons other than Tech are all expected to increase in value. We will therefore be following the example of other CFC alliances and introducing a tax on these moons. The exact rate is yet to be determined, but as with the Goons system it will certainly still leave plenty of room for profit. We will still give corporation operations first shout on moons, but we will also allow individuals to get in on whatever is left. In reality this is not much of a change, the Moon Franchise program already operated in this way, we will simply be modifying it and extending it to cover corp-held moons. The fact is that moon reactions just became an even more important source of profit for corporations and if you are not already doing some you should look into it fast, and the moon tax will not impact on that massively for your bottom line, but it will certainly help the alliance.
We are going to be introducing an alliance ratting tax. Before you all howl with anger about our shit ratting space – we know – however FA already has access to better ratting space in allied regions, and we expect to have more such options in the future. The rate of the tax will also reflect the difference in ratting quality and convenience for FA members compared to other parts of the CFC.
Why do we need to do this? Why should you accept it?

Without the strength of a united and well funded alliance, none of us could do what we like doing in null sec. The stronger FA finances are, the better off we all are, it is that simple. Help us to help you.

Now for the good news – In recognition of the impact these changes will have on your personal wallets, we have been reviewing the SRF payments system. We intend to introduce a new payment structure that brings them much more in line with the principle “Losses sustained fighting in a war for FA should not come out of your pocket”. What this means is that having a bit less income due to more taxes should not matter, since when it comes to fighting for FA you shouldn’t really have much in the way of expenses.

Beyond the above – sorry folks but deal with it. Anyone thinking they might look elsewhere for a home over this shit should probably do so because hell, maybe we’d be better off without you. Don’t expect to find much in the way of more appealing options out there tho. This is the new reality of null, and everyone is affected.

Honourable Mention

I’d like to tell you about a group of people that deserve the appreciation and acclamation of every single member of this alliance. The FA Alliance POS Team is a group of volunteers that give up literally *hundreds* of hours of their lives to carry out what is hardly one of the most exciting tasks this game has to offer – POS management. These guys log in, often daily, to run around in haulers, Rorqs and JFs ensuring that the fuel bays are filled and the silos are emptied. Without them, we would not have an efficiently run JB network, we would not have an efficiently run network of moon miners sucking up alliance income from moons, we would have much less orderly upgrading of systems and so on and so forth.
If that were not enough, to coincide with Odyssey making it so that we had to swap tower sizes on most of the money moons, we decided to carry out a long needed administrative/logistical task and transfer all the money moons and other alliance infrastructure over to our holding (executor) corporation. While Clan Shadow Wolf has long served as an excellent custodian, it was not an ideal situation. It restricted Clan’s options for assigning wallets, divisions and roles, and trying to do so was stifling Clan’s own ability to serve its ordinary members.

Which is why, for the past several weeks, a team of about 7 people have been working to transfer approximately 150 POS towers, 70 systems, about 24 stations and a few hundred POCOs over. Let me paint you a picture – transferring a large pos tower from one corp to another involves stripping it out, taking down every module, emptying the tower, unanchoring it, scooping and then relaunching everything with a character from the new corp, who then has to rebuild the entire thing all over again. This process takes an absolute minimum of 3 hours, and usually takes more like 4-5 hours. Per. Tower. Add in the logistics of jumping around, gathering needed modules to change over, and you are looking at perhaps 6-8 hours on average per operation, so that’s 900-1200 hours of work.

These guys are fucking heroes that nobody ever sees in action, and we cannot thank them enough for their efforts.

Doctrine Update

There have been some changes to some of our standard fittings, so please check the forums for updates and as always check the wiki for the latest fits. We expect to see an addition to the Armor Fleet lineup in the form of a support Geddon, and as you may already know we have been looking at including the Blaster version of the new CFC Mega (since it is broadly compatible). More on these changes will come from the appropriate people.

Next?

Keep killing TEST, keep joining (and indeed creating) CFC fleets, and keep making FA proud.

That’s all folks, speak to you again soon.

  2. Guess where Im from?

This has confirmed everything I thought about FA.
Everyone else is talking about strategic war objectives. Kills, PVP, but FA? Nooooo.
Their entire update was all about carebearing and that they are broke.
I personally cannot wait to kick these useless fuckers back to highsec.
And by the way…you have taken 1 or 2 systems in the last 4 weeks and lost all your station systems in Fountain bar 1 which your big brothers put up themselves.
    You are not winning.

    1. systems do not tell you who is winning a war. Fleet participation is the major way to tell if you are winning a war, number of battles won and lost also tell as well. I do not have the numbers for that, but if someone does then we will know for sure who is winning.

but also confirming i am part of a shitty alliance.

I’m certain that you are not winning anything as long as you are makeing no progress in fountain. Good fleet tournout is great but still not the decideing factor here, progress is, and you are makeing 0 progress in fountain :)

-We are going to be introducing an alliance ratting tax.-

Wow . . . lol . . . at first I though this was going to address the war or something seeing as it was an alliance update . . . but basically it was to tell alliance rank and file how they were going to get shafted just a little bit harder.

TEST gives the honest truth to their members and asks for contributions. These guys and others in CFC alike just turn around and increase ratting taxes and have mandatory reprocessing facilities for mining so they get taxes. The only difference I see is that the CFC “forces” their members to pay up while TEST asks for contributions.

And that’s why TEST are broke and will continue to be broke.
Do you really think TEST is going to get enough Isk from ‘contributions’ to support themselves for the duration of the war.
FA are just adapting to post Odyssey changes and i suspect alot of alliances to follow suit quite soon

You can say alot about the CFC but we will not be setting up renting and slaves to get income.

So a few more % for this and a few more % of that and we are all fine.

Once Fountain is ours we can start living the lives of kings again.

Renting and Slaves . . . hmmm. I don’t get the fake animosity CFC give to Renter alliances. Renter alliances give money to an alliance for the right to rat and make money. How is that wrong ? They would otherwise not have access to 0.0 space. It is basically payment for a service rendered. How is this different from Mitttani paying BL not to attack moons and sov in the north ?

      1. neon

That makes all of CFC renters of BL. Does anyone know the exact rent that BL charges per month? Would be interesting to divide this by the number of CFC alliances/corps/members. πŸ˜€

The moment you pay alliance tax you already are a renter of your own alliance. Most likely paying more in taxes than you would get back from SRP when you lose a ship in this war.

Have fun being a renter without knowing it, ignorance is a bliss πŸ˜€

I actually have a lot of respect for the growth FA has shown in the past few months. While they still cannot undertake major operations on their own, they have gone from utter shit to reliable pilots in coalition fleets. Other alliances have much to learn from their example.

So the CFC has a Cartel planned to control R64 prices once they control Fountain as the level they market has currently found does not bring in enough projected profit for them. Well as the Pope said to the President of the U.S.A and the Queen of England “Fuck that for a game of soldiers”. Good way to ensure to ensure industrialists of Eve have a reason to financial back the opponents of the CFC.

Aka “We have no money, but we have lots of POTENTIAL money.” Isn’t that what accountants call Risk?

It’s what accountants call liquidity risk, yeah.
in this case, dumping a large amount of moon minerals will affect the price in the market (potentially) which makes it less liquid (so less easily spendable)

liquidity problems are usually solved by loans with the illiquid assets as collateral, though in eve this is a risky business as scams are commonplace.

Perhaps at some point alliances will have to start selling moongoo and there’ll be a crash. would be interesting.

Eve is spreadsheets in space. space accountancy FTW

Taxes taxes taxes. Don’t like taxes? gtfo. Tribe has no alliance ratting taxes, no per corp or member fees, no refinery taxes, no manufacturing fees, no repair fees. Only R64s and R32s are alliance owned. POCOs are all corp owned. POCO taxes are capped.
