More like day in the life, actually.  Someone bought all 3000 200mm Railgun IIs in Jita today, along with about 1400 250mm Railgun IIs.  The reason?  CCP Rise tweeted this:

Do the math and you’ll quickly determine that’s quite a bit more DPS than a 200mm Railgun Thorax can do on Tranquility.  Something like 40% more.

The response on Reddit has been interesting.  And who knows, I may get to again fly the sniper Ferox that CCP Fozzie promised me someday.  Obviously, the CSM has been briefed on the exact plan, but I’ll be quite interested to see player reaction to it when it goes fully public.

Stay tuned.

Im betting its part of the HAC / Command ship revamp with a minor boost to Rails

that would explain it. I doubt Railguns get that boost to dps.

instead they might do HAC and Commandships do real dammage. .. (hopeful)

That picture is a T1 Thorax, which can deal 302 dps with current 200mm rails. This means it’s a 41% increase in dps if this change goes through.

Just made a rail thorax on eft and i get 470 dps and better optimal range and falloff than the thorax in this image… Are we assuming that the pilot simply forgot to put drones in his bay?

Dear genius. When you hover a mouse over a group of guns…What do you expect to see? When you hover a mouse over stasis webifier, do you expect to see your armor resistances? -.-

face it, CCP has finally realized they cant balance 4 races, so now they want to reduce it to 3, and since they couldnt come up with a competent way to fix amarr capacitor issues without “lol we’ll take away your 8th lowslot and ability to brick-tank to give you more mediums for cap boosters”, obviously amarr just has to be put down.

They will very likely nerf some other aspect if the DPS will increase by 40%. Longest range and highest DPS cannto come without a cost. Even if its only simple thing as having a small clip of ammo.

T1 Ships in general should be nerfed except for battleship class. The boost they received was way too high. Intermediate players do not fly vagas anymore, they just use stabber that is almost as good (at least the speed is the same), it only does not have EM resist. However, any non-matar T1 ship makes their T2 counterparts useless, as now non-matar T2 ship offers very few extras while still having EM gap for shield setups. I believe all sub-battleship classes should get -1 slot, less PG and CPU and very low sensor strenght and targeting range + scan resolution (T1 weakness would be vulnerability to Ewar) and same base speed as their T2/faction variants. It would make them still better than they were before buff, but not ridiculously OP as they are now.

Stabbers don’t have the same speed assuming you have lvl 5 HAC(which you should have if your actually going to PvP with it), they also don’t have the T2 tank, as you mentioned, Vega also does about 35-40% more DPS then the stabber. All this plus it has an extra low, and more fitting which translates into even more DPS, or more speed/agility.

I personally believe the Caldari needs more buffing. They continue to Nerf caldari with every expansion. Yes some were a tad OPed, but not enough to be viable in PvP (except drake) , And I’m talking about missiles here. If they are buffing rails, they need to rebuff Heavy Missiles. At this time unless your using HAMs you will get curb stomped as of now. Before yes they were the ultimate of solo PvP with its range and balance damage. Bring them back to a decent level of usability for PvP. CCP already took missile slots off, killed the range/damage. This most recent expansion brought little love to Cruise missiles by cutting range, adding 25% damage, Increasing Signature Radius. For those who don’t use missiles might say that’s a buff. But it’s actually a De-buff as the sig radius penalty grows the damage is let applied, similar to bombs from SB’s. So all in all, this expansion nerfed the ravens strongest ability for range, but added a small damage increase for battleship class or higher. While in this case the rails get buffed which there isn’t a long list of debuffs for them. Now thoraxs will probably easily beat the current drakes-while the only way to get more that 400-500dps(without drones) is T2 HAMs with faction modules. Even then it’s just paper dps. Caldari has become the Step-Child no one wants anymore-not even CCP. Also it’s virtually useless in TiDi battles.

Your comparing a short range ammo blaster Thorax DPS, to HAM Drake DPS, and wondering why the Thorax does more damage?

The short range ammo Thorax has very little damage projection compared to a HAM Drake. Thorax has an of about 3k optimal + 2.5k falloff with Void, which means unless you are right ontop of someone, your not going to do that damage. Sure, ever Thorax is gonna fit a MWD to stay on top of it’s target, but you have like a min and a half to get your kills, before your cap is spent. Do I even have to mention the tank? I know it’s not very fair(BC versus cruiser), but you are the one that compared them in the first place.

All that being said I love the Thorax, I fly it all the time. I know what the ship can do, and why it can do it. Your comparing two different ships, designed for two different fleet types. Then wondering why they don’t perform the same, it’s somewhat ridiculous really.

Personally, I think Rails should be similar to artillery. High alpha, low RoF. But more precise. They already do less damage than arty. So it would be balanced. This would make them the weapon of choice for sniping smaller ships at long range.
