Since Cerebral Wolf has made himself persona non grata to the CFC through his horrifically played Meta game with the Dust community. (Helped in no small part by an agitprop theatre written by The Mittani.) He’s decided to take a final stab at the CFC and dropped a little care package off at the desk of EN24. The following contains snippets from five jabber chat logs containing what he claims to be (queue ominous music) “damning evidence” implicating Clusterfuck Coalition members (CSM8 delegate Mynnna included) in a scheme to speculate on markets with data retrieved from CCP’s CHAOS developer testbed server.

The chat logs do not detail EXACTLY from whom, where, or how the data was obtained. The best I was able to deduce is that “some russian” on the “the russian eve forums” (not a Goon?) managed to compromise the CHAOS server and pulled a ton of juicy info from it. Via some third party communications, I assume a forum, the data was available. Goons then plotted and prepared to speculate on the markets before FanFest anticipating the complete removal of Ice Belts. The majority of the discussion seems to center around what various isotopes to speculate upon. Most of it is random drivel about taking Adderall and ripping on some deaf guy who asked a question at FanFest.

(Took a lot of heart to stand up and do that. Bravo sir, whoever you are.)

According to a tweet from Mynnna. They made trillions:

Here are a few selected jabber highlights, the original files – as we received them – are linked at the end of this article. Just for reference, the 2013 FanFest (where most of these announcement were officially made) ocurred between April 25th to 27th, so pay attention to the timestamps.

(6:34:17 PM) basil_vulpine: The test server not having ice – is that a rumour or confirmed?

(6:34:53 PM) sulzer_wartzilla: not the test server, but chaos

(6:36:28 PM) basil_vulpine: Thanks sulzer_wartzilla. Do we have any ongoing eyes on the chaos server?
(6:36:59 PM) sulzer_wartzilla: probably, but nothing i know of – i just get this info from people more clever than me

(11:52:07 PM) mmarlon: In the new build ice fields in the table Celestials not returned, but in a table with text strings found an interesting entry: Blue Ice Belt, White Glaze Belt, Smooth Glacial Mass Belt etc. No map location of those found. All the ice harvesters have reduced basic cycle twice. At T2 harvester cycle decreased from 500 to 250 seconds.
(11:52:56 PM) mmarlon: rough translation from russian eve forum, hacking Chaos server thread
(11:53:21 PM) garr_khan: huh
(11:53:24 PM) garr_khan: interesting
(11:53:40 PM) garr_khan: significantly shorter cycles would maybe point to a LS/NS move
(11:54:40 PM) captain_pitts: what does this mean :ohdear:
(11:54:47 PM) mmarlon: yeah, those cycles was long enough for loosing mind
(11:54:57 PM) garr_khan: i… dont really know
(11:55:07 PM) mmarlon: it means that ccp is experimenting with cycle times
(11:55:14 PM) garr_khan: i think he meant the first part
(11:55:27 PM) mmarlon: if shorter, ice will just shit out of harvesters like mad
(11:56:18 PM) mmarlon: the first part is that in todays build patched on Chaos server (closed only for developpers) the cache scrapping of celestials temp files
(11:56:46 PM) mmarlon: have show no ice fields, just as was last couple of days
(11:57:11 PM) mmarlon: so there is very very big chance that ice belts are no more static in the map
(11:57:12 PM) vatek: they might reduce the refine quantities to compensate
(11:57:13 PM) garr_khan: having no celestials but still references to “ice belts” would maybe point to exploration sigs?
(11:57:18 PM) vatek: yeah
(11:57:26 PM) vatek: or something to do with this new discovery scanner thing that they havent shown yet
(11:57:30 PM) mmarlon: it seems so

(12:20:30 AM) mynnna: ah yeah we found out about the harvester change earlier this morning

(12:42:52 AM) mmarlon: just curious, is it custom here to hide relevant data and do goonfuckery or i am stupid revealing about cycles halved?
(12:43:00 AM) platinumdrgn: im sure it will be like normal belts that replenish at DT’s
(12:43:02 AM) mynnna: share away. v0v
(12:44:07 AM) gefunkt: just keep in mind that while some goons are scary smart, most are dumb and will do pretty much whatever you tell them
(12:45:00 AM) mmarlon: ok then, lemme check net for cache readers and do that cache reading myself, that russian hacker does not look very trustfull to me, nor have knowledge what to look for.
(12:45:40 AM) Jack Haydn: mmarlon: you’re looking for reverence

(5:48:34 PM) mynnna: it was just that he was doing it at all

But what does it all mean?

Was the EULA violated? I don’t know. It’s really hard to tell. This whole thing seems to fall into a giant grey area, which was capitalized upon.

On the other hand, Cerebrawl Wolf claimed to have contacted CCP Games regarding the breach, the response was… predictable:

From: Cerebrawl Wolf

Sent: Tuesday, May 07, 2013 3:17 PM
To: Security
Subject: FAO CCP Stillman

Just a quick question, is it considered an exploit or against the rules to download the Chaos Server database before a new patch is introduced or the information is made publlic?

CCP Games Responds:

Hi [redacted],

The EULA currently does not permit this:
“You may not copy, distribute, rent, lease, loan, modify or create derivative works of, adapt, translate, perform, display, sublicense or transfer any information accessible through the System, including without limitation, any part of the Game Content or User Content, or any item, object or character in your Account, except that, solely to the extent permitted by the System, you may modify certain Game Content and User Content only for your own purposes in playing the Game.

You may not reverse engineer, disassemble or decompile, or attempt to reverse engineer or derive source code from, all or any portion of the Software, or from any information accessible through the System (including, without limitation, data packets transmitted to and from the System over the Internet), or anything incorporated therein, or analyze, decipher, “sniff” or derive code (or attempt to do any of the foregoing) from any packet stream transmitted to or from the System, whether encrypted or not, or permit any third party to do any of the same, and you hereby expressly waive any legal rights you may have to do so. If the Software and/or the System contains license management technology, you may not circumvent or disable that technology.”

This would include static and bulk data obtained through the client. However much like the cache scraping, this is something we do not plan on enforcing or banning people for but in the cases where the EULA is violated to a further extent. Note that de-compilation of client code is strictly forbidden and will be enforced where possible.

Best regards,
Charlie Eriksen
Security Analyst
CCP Games

He writes back once again:

I have Jabber logs of several players, including your new CSM representative downloading and using the Chaos server files before fanfest for ISK gain and Market manipulation.

Does that come under PLEX for Snitches? 😀

Final response from CCP Games:

Hi [redacted],

We are unable to act on evidence supplied by third parties in all cases when it comes to enforcing of the EULA. Coupled with the fact that we historically have not enforced this nor are able to do so in general, this would not fall under PLEX for snitches at this time I’m afraid.

Best regards,

So, will CCP Games come out swinging the banhammer? Probably not. They seem to already know about it and aren’t going to investigate, which seems to indicate that there wasn’t any actual wrongdoing. Also, it is not uncommon to see official EVE Online threads and non-official forums depicting information taken out of the Chaos server.

All in all; Well played CFC! Depending on how much was made, this puts the Faction Warfare manipulation look like two peanuts in an M&M factory.

this article lost all credibility when "a scheme to speculate on markets with data retrieved from CCP’s CHAOS developer testbed server." was read.

yeah, because nobody brought isotopes and caused ice/isotope prices to spike after the russians revealed that all the ice fields had disappeared on the chaos server? no, nobody did that, and isotope/ice prices didn't spike. right? must just be goons!

seems that wolf guy is a bit of a sore loser and is clutching at straws.

To make it worse, the reason why he was booted was due to him "trying to metagame" but collecting rl info on people to try to use against them. So if Goons booted him for an offense, shows you how low he sank to try to be relevant. Now he looking for any thing he can to make it seem like he is the good guy, fuck him. Remember if you support his crazy stories you support neckbeards trying to not only ruin your game but drag in personal issues, and terrorists. Don't let the terrorists win. MERIKA

    2. I just do not know

Like any article in real life, one has to assess with objective thinking, often one has to ascertain more on what is not said then what is said. For example if I used the BBC as a reference I would think that a certain world religion was cuddly and nice, but due to my own assessment I know otherwise. I apply that same thinking to articles here and on that other site which cannot be named. In this article there was details included that gave the benefit of the doubt to the CFC CSM member. I happen to know that the CFC have moved rather late on the moon changes and PL are way in advance of them, of course how that happened is speculation, but as that sort of happens a lot one would think there was something in it. We all know that the CFC and PL meta game, and as players we have to hope that CCP try to control it. So do have a dig at the author of the article for detailing this is pretty childish on your part!

          3. I just do not know

You really are that stupid, its pretty evident that its not just the Goons that were doing it, the data was taken by Russians, which could be anyone of a number of alliances, I just pointed out to your trolling that Riv does not have to get details on the others that have done this before he publishes this, that others have done this does this make the CFC less guilty, though while I think it was common knowledge that there was going to be some changes to cie mining, the actual details were still up in the air, and that is what was an advantage to those that took data from the server, whether they did in fact have this advantage is very difficult to assess. I would thionk CCP are looking into it.

But from my prespective, I know that this game is subject to a heck of a lot of meta gaming and exploits. But I have seen CCP go after botters and the Faction Warfare manipulation was dealt with preoperly, this one is very grey indeed. So does this make me think worse of teh Goons, nope, I think PL are much worse in terms of meta gaming.

You just want an excuse, ANY excuse, to kick the CFC out of the CSM. It doesn't matter if you actually have a cause (and you don't).

Cerebral Wolf tried to meta game and discovered he was one level up from Prencleeve Grothsmore i.e. rubbish at it. Bitter that he wasn't popular enough to get on the DUST version of the CSM he then went fall retard.

Dunked by GSF he's now expressing his impotent rage.

When I was just a young boy my Grandfather said that what is right is right and what is wrong is wrong. Allowing CSM or others to gain information to use against the rest of EVE is terribly bad. This would mean that CCP condones such things. Way to go CCP in saying " historically have not enforced this nor are able to do so in general " Nothing like setting policy on the fly. Your words have meaning. When interacting with the community, everything you say matters.

    Have a great week everyone.

you might have a point if the belts being removed from the chaos server wasn't public knowledge. however since every one had access to this information, the playing field was perfectly level.

      1. Nyv

Nope. They may have accessed the information before the rest of EVE. May not be the case here, right, but it could happen again.
The big point is that they could have been wrong quite easily: ice belts disappeared, but ice anomalies are now here. They're just lucky that CCP made them supply only 80% of demand in highsec. Plus, they are making a lot of money by selling to later speculators, not by holding it until odyssey, I believe. It's all about speculation, and not real stuff that much.

The best thing is that ice is mainly used by other 0.0 entities and speculators, and they're not really stealing from the core playerbase, more from alliance wallets :p

(11:56:18 PM) mmarlon: the first part is that in todays build patched on Chaos server (closed only for developpers) the cache scrapping of celestials temp files

That comment right there means that it was not a level playing field. This is just one more peice of evadence that CCP looks the other way when goons do something crooked.

Damage Control is their job. If you understand real markets you will understand what happened here. Someone can say " Apple income has gone down 15% this quarter" When someone on the inside confirms it… then shorting the stock might be a great bet. For me yes this is bad and we are all equal and should not have an advantage even by 1 day or a week over any one else. We do not need some big scandals in EVE connected to CCP. Eve is growing and I have waited for a long ass time for EVE to grow. I just do not want anyone fucking this up. Saying things like " historically have not enforced this nor are able to do so in general " This is not about the CFC. I personally have nothing against the CFC in general. Every Organization has shit heads. Goons do not own that.

1 Eve is growing and scandals of all types, big or small, bullshit or not are bad. Do not fuck up this growth. 2 Advantage of any Eve player over the other based on information that everyone would not be able to get confirmed is bad. Nothing pisses off the player base more than to feel as if they were screwed. But to top it off to be screwed with CCP or CSM help. 3. Everything CCP says to the player base has meaning. Almost every single word is taken as gospel. Especially if it has a negative side.

Many years ago MAYBE but now ? No way in hell. CCP has grown up into a large organization where people are looking over everyone's shoulder. Not a bad idea because just as within in RL someone will fck you over to get some cash. Some will sell your soul without your knowledge. But I have no paranoia about CCP when it comes to such things. Is it possible a CCP employee would do this? Yes but likely ? maybe ? Will they get caught? High probability. I mean that one dude was caught by Internal Affairs and all he was doing was reading mails of enemy alliances? etc.and passing it on ? Who knows but owell. But getting items ? isk etc ? and moving it to players.. I think you are way off base. CCP as an organization is just as paranoid as we are, as they should be.

This article is pure crap because it does not show that mynnna bought his isotopes a month before Russians leaked the CHAOS info. He said he guessed the upcoming changes from a slide of an Eve fan event. The question is was that just a lucky guess or was there some discussion between Eve employees and goons which revealed the real meaning of the slide which showed nothing more, but a topic called "resource allocation"?

Dat's right, in the effort to tar and feather a CSM member by using a sham EULA violation because you're buttmad you didn't get elected , you went and ACTUALLY VIOLATED THE EULA. Riverini also posted this horrible news article under Incidir Mauser's name.

Mauser had contacted both sides, realized this story was trash, and trashed it. Riverini then dug it out of the trash bin, and posted it anyways, after making up things to cast goons in a worse light. Which is why Mauser has since quit the staff.

And now Riverini is deleting posts and handing out bans to anybody stating this fact on his poor excuse for a new site.
