EveSkunk has been reviled by a lot of Eve Online players for disclosing their alliance mass mailing messages. Although, as the EveSkunk owner has told us, this is an easily avoidable situation should alliances put some effort into their security policies.

Anyways, they rolled out this weekend a quite interesting service: – Alliance standings-

Harvested from the same leaked API senders, these alliance standings might prove valuable to any wardec’ing entity which might be out there looking for trouble.

EveSkunk.com standings

It also serves as a valuable revelation tool, for example take a look at Pandemic Legion blues list – which is larger than expected.

Honestly, I always wondered why such a site/service did't start years ago.

I mean, isn't ALL that difficult to inflitrate flocks of spies in every alliance – ask PL.

And once even the lowliest, roleless nub is in a random corp within an alliance, he/she has access to alliance mails and standings without any restriction.

It was just a matter of time, really.

The easy thing to do is not send to the Alliance at once Simply give each corp a mailing list to manage

Or- use Jabber or IRC like any other reasonably well put together alliance.

And it is simple to fix.. Any important shit gets run by CEOs/FCs.. Ops are NEED TO KNOW basis until the jump.

Ceos tell trusted members to ignore alliance in game mail. And to use external messaging systems to convey important messages to fleets.

And lastly, a healthy dose of disinfo into the compromised system is a necessity.

After 4 years in PL, we've sent 2 alliance mails.

The first was something stupid, the second was bitching at the guy who sent the first.

          we have a winner.

PL happens on their forums and IRC, in-game mails and chat are avoided.

important forum posts can be watermarked for each viewer which allows to trace copypasted leaks (e.g. encode the userid into the text by selectively changing latin characters into different but identical looking unicode characters).

IRC, Mumble and forums also keep connection logs which allows you to know "who did actually access this forum thread/was on comms at the time of this discussion/…?" and additionally forces spies to make use of proxies/VPNs – IPs harvested from their own members are routinely compared against IPs harvested from enemy alliances and known VPN services.

In general information is disseminated on a need to know basis and the culture is such that most ops don't have to be announced long in advance (as pilots have IRC open whenever they are online, and only log in for pings anyways).

Apocalypse Now has the longest red list Ive ever seen. Jesus Christ, it’s like they spent an entire day flipping through the entire Eve Alliance list and set each one red individually.

The owner of this site cannot prove that he obtained this APIs legaly, and did not use 3-th party software or hacked accounds to get to those APIs.
It's interesting to see what fallows.
Will CCP react, or will they just sit and watch, there in game services been exported in 3-th party softwares for better security ?
Will this become the next bug that CCP will sudenly realize 3 years later ?

    1. bagehi

I think stuff like this is why CCP already removed the legacy API stuff, so people have the ability to manage different API IDs. This used to be rampant on an alliance leadership level.
