It all started with a PL/Test fleet heading to L5D-ZL to hit the Nulli cyno jammer that was going back online. The tower had quite a few POS gunners on it who did a good job of first ECMing the logistics ships before alpha’ing them off one after another. By the time the cyno jammer was offlined by the combined fire of the PL/Test Maelstrom/Rohk fleet, about five of the scimitars had been picked off (myself included – thanks guys). Overheating, hardeners, didn’t matter.

Battle Report: Nulli Secunda versus The Honey Badgers – May 9th

Scimitars Down in L5D-ZL

Guderian began forming up a Nulli fleet while PL/Test worked on the cyno.  To keep the fleet interested, progod burned through them a few times in a kestrel.  It was amusing and elicited a lot of local spam.  PL/Test began moving system after system until they arrived in 35-JWD.  On the gate to L-YMYU, Sort stated “they’re going to bridge into the system next door, everyone act surprised.”

Guderian did, in fact, bridge the Nulli fleet into L-YMYU as Sort warped the PL/Test fleet to the outgate.  However, knowing that it was about to happen, Sort had called for hero rifters to get bounce spots.  As Nulli came in, he asked who had the bounce, and one of the rifter pilots said they were at a bounce.  He warped the fleet… and the rifter pilot was at a bounce on the 35-JWD gate… the gate the PL/Test fleet was on.  So, after some laughter, he asked for a rifter with a bounce of the correct gate, 1-2J4P.  Another spoke up and the fleet warped to him.  PL/Test landed at a bit over 200km from the gate, outside the Nulli bubbles.  Nulli ended up at range off the gate.  PL/Test warped to the gate at zero.  Tension built as the two fleets stared at each other over 250km of empty space.

Then Guderian warped down to the gate.  Target calling was furious as both fleets alpha’d ships off the field.  A cyno went up and Nulli brought in a triage carrier.  A second triage carrier showed up soon after.  Ships were still exploding before any reps could get to them.  Eventually both sides lost the ability to just cut through the other in an instant way.  With the triage carriers on the field, the PL FC asked for supers to come online, in case more Nulli capitals showed up.  He told the dreads to hold, and a dozen waffles who were on a roam began burning the few jumps towards the fight.  No PL triage carriers were ready in range, so Sort continued calling targets, eventually switching to the count-down method to alpha off ships (which worked for a few more ships) before calling for the remains of the fleet to deagress.  Enough scimitars remained and Nulli had lost enough ships for the fleet to be able to hold on the gate to jump out without losing any more battleships.

On the other side, PL began hitting targets again.  With the carriers unable to rep Nulli, the PL/Test gang was able to make headway for a few seconds, before a cyno went up and another Nulli triage carrier came in.  Sort told the capitals to stand down and told the fleet to burn off.  At this point, Nulli killed off a few stragglers, as the remains of the fleet got safe.  Nulli did not give chase, as they burned back home.

I would like to go on record as having not ruined the fight by dropping supers.

In the end, both fleets agreed it was a good fight.  Congrats and good fights were left in local and the two fleets went their respective ways.

Tracking dreads? They were POS shot dreads. And triage carriers are plenty effective in small numbers.

            May 10, 2012 at 5:12 am
          2. The Observer

If they were structure shot dreads, they still have more damage mods than ones made to tank. Also, carriers have a fitting service genius. Just because a dread is fit for max damage on a pos doesn't mean it can't refit en route via a carrier or during the fight.

15+ supers on standby is PL trying one hand behind their back, they can bring far far far more than that, and hell they can bring allies with far more to offer than test. Reason they have a few on standby is to keep the fights "Gud" and fairish, reason they bring test is to have fun.

We had 10 hurricanes and 17 rifters, and you had battleship reinforcements that put your numbers up to 15-20 more than us. We also had to fight a deathstar POS before engaging.

The principle is the same, if dropping i-win ships is ok for you, then it's ok for us.

This was a great fight and I really enjoyed being a part of it. But I think a recitation of the final losses is informative. According to the dog-net battle report linked above we (Nulli) had 85 kills against 66 losses. But we killed 56 enemy battleships while losing only 25. We also killed 4 command ships and a heretic while losing 4 Hics. A full 28 of our 66 losses were frigate class ships while we killed only 16 frigates among the enemy's 85 dead.

It was a great fight and I really enjoy this sort of thing. I think we did clearly take the victory tonight, however. We'll see what happens next time, we certainly have a worthy adversary.

What most people are failing to see is that this was a product of why we're here in the first place. Good fights. Sieging Dreads. Triage Carriers. Doesn't seem to matter. After the fight last night TEST general was lit up with a common statement of "That was an awesome and fun fight." No mention of dropping caps. Props to Nulli for continuing to provide that.

I think the biggest factor was actually the split damage types on the pl/test side, not the triage carriers. At the start both where alphaing stuff at a good clip but PL/TEST dropped below critical mass way before nulli because half our ships where rokhs and Nulli primaried the test maels.
