TL;DR: After a considerate amount of dissatisfaction amongst their viewers regarding the pricing of their subscription, it seems that the people behind eveiseasy.com have decided to make a change of direction. They are launching a new subscription type at $5/month and at the same time they are going to spend the capital they’ve made to hire other players to help creating videos, an approach similar to that of Skill-Capped.com of WoW.

If you are interested in becoming a contributor for EIE, you can find more information here:
Eve is Easy Site.

This is the email that EIE sent to all of their free subscribers yesterday:

Hi Everyone,
First off, we have made you guys another free video. In this one, Garmon takes out a Zealot by himself and discusses various topics including manual piloting, capacitor management and how to separate a gang across systems. You can check it out here: Youtube

Furthermore, we would like to announce that we are going to make some drastic changes in the direction that we are taking this project. We have been getting a lot of feedback regarding the pricing of our service which, to be fair, has been somewhat out of proportion to what a service such as this should realistically cost. We have been too eagerly trying to make this into something more than just videos, with a lot of additional perks for our subscribing members. This has in turn lead our site into becoming something quite exclusive, which is something that we never really intended for it. As it is, our current site is not really accessible to the vast majority of the eve community, and this is something that we want to change. As a consequence of this, we have decided to create a new form of subscription which will give you access to all of our videos, but nothing else. We are planning to make this new subscription form available by June 1st, and the pricing of it will be around the order of $5 per month. In addition, you will also have the option to pay this subscription type through ISK (400m).

The option to subscribe for a premium membership will still persist and will give you access to all of our additional content besides the videos and make you a full member of the EIE community. We have discussed the new subscription option with our current subscribers to make sure that they don’t feel cheated and they seem very happy with the new approach. We will be spending a lot of resources on keeping our current subscribers happy, but they will of course also have the option to convert into the new subscription form when it goes live. Garmon recorded a statement regarding the changes as well as our future vision for EIE, you can check it out in the beginning of the Zealot video posted above if you are interested.

We have also been getting a lot of feedback regarding the way that we have been advertising and presenting our website, which have made us re-evaluate the approach that we are going to take with this. We recognize that the website until now has been presented in a way that made it look like something that it is not. This can only be described as an error of judgment and it should have not happened. And for that, we are sorry.

We have decided to switch some roles around in regards to who gets to make decisions, and as an immediate consequence of that, the site is going to be completely redone and re-launched along with the new subscription option on June 1st. We have, in fact, made some changes to the site already that should be reflecting our new marketing and pricing policy. Hopefully our new direction will more clearly reflect our intentions with this project.

As for the future of EIE, we would like to share with you the vision that we have. The launch of our current site has actually been quite a success and we have made a bunch of capital. What is going to happen now is that we are going to invest that money into making EIE much greater than what it currently is. We will be hiring other experienced players to help us make more content and pay them in cash. In fact, if you think that you have what it takes to produce content of a similar or nearly similar level of quality to that which we have been doing so far, we would very much like to hear from you. You can find more information on how to become a contributor here: http://www.eveiseasy.com/contributor/. Our plan then is to produce content that covers pretty much every single aspect of EVE PVP, from Solo and Gang warfare all the way to Fleet and Wormhole PVP. When we launch the new video subscription form in about 6 weeks, we are expecting to have 40-50 different videos available.

Hopefully, EIE will evolve into something that everybody can be a part of. We really don’t want to alienate ourselves from the EVE community by making our site exclusive to a select elite of players, we want this to be accessible to anyone. Thus, we encourage you to give us your suggestions, because we would really like to hear people’s opinion on the new direction that we are taking with this.

Some people have raised concerns whether this project is in conflict with CCP’s policy. We are currently talking to CCP about this and there seem to be no issues so far, but we will keep you updated if there is something more concrete to be said about this.

Lastly, we would like say that we don’t think we have been doing a very good job at communicating with you guys, we should have been a lot more open about a lot of things, and for that we apologize. We hope that you have not all completely lost your faith in us or at least that this message can go some of the way to restoring it.

Regards,

Garmon
On behalf of the EIE Team

i agree this is a bunch of crap… its like having someone teach you how to repair a car but never let you touch the car at all… They are not providing a service only information, if they want to get paid then they should recruit people to teach them in person, provide the ships and teach in real combat situations. Not by saying "pay us to watch us pwn stuff". Thats providing a service not watching epeen pvp videos 😛

Indeed, watching videos and reading bullshit will not make anyone an elite pvper. It will just turn the player into a"know-it-all" theorist that will still fail/forget to overheat modules when needed, or burn them being careless. Just to give an example.

I don't understand why anyone would pay for this shit when they can find the same advice from other players with the same amount of experience who are more than happy to help them for free.

Anyone who pays for this service is a moron who deserves to have his money taken.

Well, they know exactly what they are doing. Abaddon21 is part of EIE and he launched his own website EVE PRO Guides in the same manner – high prices to begin with and then drop the cost. It's all marketing 😐

I bought one of Abaddon's guides (was bored and had money to burn) for about 36 euro. His isk-making guide. Was pretty disapointed. It does not cover much more than the basics and even lacks in that section several times.

It's not for noobs cuz you need quite a lot of knowledge about EVE to be able to follow his guide, it's not for the ultimate pro's cuz they will be way beyond what it teaches so I guess that leaves lazy oldbies like me who are bored and don't know anything better to do with their money.

His free vids are good value though, both on isk making and PVP.

Yah, it's 'not bad', but it's far, far from what one would expect from "pro-teachers" who require subs payed with not so modest ammounts of RL money. They might be the best at pvp, they're certainly not the best at teaching stuff.

I loved how the first couple videos were like, "We are going to help everyone learn to pvp and get past the big learning curve so everyone can have a more enjoyable time in eve and there are more :gudfights: to go around."

Then after the first couple hundred k views it turned into, "wow looks like a lot of people want to learn how to pvp, fuck our original thoughts.. lets charge them for it!!!"

Took a whole of 7 videos for them to sellout and now expect to be paid.. f them I'd rather learn from other people like sarncaid who aren't trying to make cash and just want to better the community.

If you want 200$ for a lifetime sub (or even half of that) you have to significantly step up your production-quality. Every single member of this project struggles to speak. You stumble over your words all the time, too many thinking-pauses (uh, uhm), you never seem to take second takes and you don't pronounce words clearly.
Write down what you're going to say, go over it, memorize it and when you commentate make sure it doesn't sound like you're reading it off of a sheet of paper. I know this might seem like a lot of work, but if you want $$ and €€ for this you have to step up the way you speak. Maybe then more people will feel like listening to an 30min commentary of yours.
Love the project, but this is just my take on it.

In principal this is good . . . in practice anybody willing to pay for this and not learn it for themself probably won't benefit much from these guides. Anybody that PvPs know that you can't teach PvP with concepts but rather most if not all is learned while actually doing it. The videos will never teach you how to react when your adrenaline is pumping away as your heart thuds in your ears when you realize that you bit off more than you can chew and need to get out.

  10. Another perspective

A Garmon post on another forum, tbh I wouldn't be surprised if this is going to be successful because he does bring up some good points, but I agree that their launch was pretty bad

"I played wow for a few months last year, the aspect I loved most about the game was the Arena side of things, I did a lot of research into how to better my game, for the most part, all of the information was scattered, in text form, not very good, too vague, the best content wasn't available in a large quantity, it was quite a struggle to get all of the information that I needed that was relevant for me.

After asking a friend for some advice, he suggested skill-capped.com, for a modest fee of $5 a month, the website offered hundreds of instructional videos, many of which were relevant to my needs, and it seemed all of the videos came from the best pvpers of the game, and that the website handpicked who were allowed to contribute. And it seemed that there was some sort of symbiotic relationship between how many people were subscribed and the contributors, without the subscription, such a service wouldn't be possible.

So I paid for it, and I was very satisfied, I learned a lot, it bettered my game substantially and improved my game, I could even be a little pretentious around my friends if I learned something I didn't think they knew, lol. Came back to eve a couple of months later when Crucible was announced.

The problems I had that lead me to going for skill-capped, exists in eve, especially for <1 year players – although there are some great content that is available right now, wensley's rifter guide, and kil2's channel comes to mind http://www.youtube.com/user/jampyzero?feature=g-a… , but as I said earlier, great content that is available is limited

So my future vision on this project, is to give people the same experience that I received from skill-capped, at a similar price, with a similar business model. One of EIE's main selling point right now is the personalities involved and the community aspect of it, and all of the perks involved, while this was great for capital, it's not great for the people that just want to see videos for a reasonable price, so with that, we pissed off a lot of fans. We contacted all of our current paying subscribers regarding our future plans and they are all very happy with it and are happy to support us, we're also going to designate more resources towards keeping them happy.

There's also some issues with CCP, apart from some casual conversations, we haven't heard anything concrete yet, we mailed them, in detail, our plans for the future before we went public with it, with our intentions to hopefully be on the same page as each other and perhaps coming into a mutual agreement. I'm not too worried about it, but saying that, we're most likely not going to spend any money at all until we hear something concrete from CCP, which will hopefully be soon.

We got off to a different start than skill-capped did, mainly due to the fact that we rushed things, are naive, and we didn't deal with the community like we should have, we also didn't have any capital. We're also limited on how many people play the game compared to wow. Now we do have capital, and we have a clear vision on what we want for the future, this forum is full of bittervets and those who are not, have been actively pvping for years, if you're interested in contributing, please contact me"

Winning a CCP Tournament doesn't mean they are good at PVP in day day EVE univers. I paid for a month and watch some of the videos – you have more free video on youtube than the paid video list on sub… disappointing. They need to get more videos for the members fast.

lol – a camwhore like Garmon *charges* for PvP videos? Jeez… Just join RvB for a few months, learn stuff first-hand, then go to one of the null-sec alliances and fly with small-scale FCs…

This is the perfect place for EFT warriors though. You can watch Garmon videos on youtube while mining in high-sec, and then claim you're awesome at PvP, matrix-style. I can see why carebears with too much $$$ could enjoy this…
