Dev Blog: Ewareness for Debuff-alo Soldiers

Hi everyone,

I wrote my first devblog a few weeks ago and you were all so nice that I figured I should write another one… plus I actually have stuff to tell you about.

I think we have all been webified or ewared in one way or another. To be honest, the whole thing is very confusing for a noob like me. I have lost a few ships because I had no idea that I was being warp scrambled and when I finally realized it and tried to find the attacker in the overview, it was too late. I'm sure some of you more experienced players have also had problems finding who the heck was ewaring you.

This is pretty important information and it shouldn't only be available in the overview (that is if you are lucky enough to have your attacker in the overview) and therefore we are bringing you the first implementation of the Effects Bar in the upcoming Escalation release.

This bar is right above your ship controls (or below them if you have them aligned to top) and it puts all the ewar information in one place. It consists of the 8 different icons you know and love from the overview but each icon is only visible when the particular ewar effect it represents is being applied to you.

When you mouse over an icon, you will get information on who is attacking you with that effect, with how many modules and what kind of ships they are flying. If you happen to have more than 6 people using the same ewar effect on you, the hint displays 6 of them and tells you how many more there are.

And if you want to attack them back, just right click the icon, find the dude you hate the most in the list and target him or her back!

If you happen to like the 16×16 ewar icons in the overview then don't worry; they are not going anywhere :)

We hope you like this new feature, and please let us know what you think.  Here is how it works:

That’s it for me for now. Fly safe!

Brilliant! This brings a level of polish to the game that will help EVE Online really shine. No more furiously clicking/loading overview tabs to find that pesky blackbird when you have highly specific PVP overviews loaded. (i.e. SCs only, BSs only, T3s, etc)

The best is when it turns out some blue nubzor is actually ewar-ing you. "WHY U NO SHOW ON OVERVIEW! RAAAWR"

I have no doubt that CCP_Greyscale is opposed to this idea and is furiously fighting against it.

Great improvement on how it is right now. Yet the ergonomy of it seems pretty bad. This would deserve some more design work.

Will CTRL clicking the name to target them like in the overview be supported? Every sub menu opened is another chance to misclick and a few seconds lost.

  16. Good work CCP!

hey while your at it, could you add an option to have a triangle or circle marking your own ship when you zoom out, or even an arrow showing your heading? Also, an option to put things in the overview "always on top", so i can have the gates or other things to align too at the top of my overview no matter what? Reversing the overview puts gates on top but if a fleet is bigger than the overview you have to scroll down or resort which is a pain in the ass during combat. Also can there be a way to lock your sort lists at the top of the overview, so I don't hit them on accident and reverse my overview?

I only ask because you seem to be actually putting effort in the making the UI more user friendly. The things I'm asking for are just check boxes in the setting that people don't have to ever use if they don't like them, but I think many people would use them.

Yes, tactical helps you get perspective on the field, but an arrow would be much nicer than all the crap tactical puts on your screen.

Now hold on there, that sounds like a far too sensible and intelligent approach to piloting a ship while zoomed out like no one ever ever does. That kind of thinking could drastically improve the piloting ability of every single player in Eve, dramatically changing the environment and enriching this already massively diverse game even further and I, for one, am just not ready for that kind of tectonic shift in quality game design and demand that if such measures are eventually implemented that there be a short cut key so I can quickly and easily switch between the ship cursor/arrow/effort for as and when circumstances dictate that this could possibly be a huge and unimaginable advantage.

      Well put my friend!
Indeed, piloting will become so much easier and many more people will play more the game.

Please look into the World of Warcraft addons before going to far down this Buff/Debuff line.

They have been around for years, work very well and display the information that is needed.

PS: DO NOT USE THE WOW DEFAULT BARS!

Did you seriously just say CCP should implement something from WOW in EVE?

      Get the fuck out.

  19. i want soundz

Next we need a sound for when someone is locking you. I don't see the point in a sound for when I'm locking someone, I know this is happening as I asked for it to happen. BUTwhen in a massive fleet I may not notice one guy locking me up in an init or something…… more sound customization plz!!!!!!!
