This was be one of the most talked-about presentations of the fanfest. Here is the replay in case you missed it along a small summary.

Team Five 0 are working on a two-stage project: refactoring and rewriting the code within the current design, so that it is actually manageable, and then redesign most of the systems involved including criminal timers, logoff mechanics, killmails and security status so that they are simpler and better.

We are still working on the design for the improved version, and it won’t start development for a few months yet, but highlights include simpler logoff timers, a simpler three-stage criminal flagging system with built-in safeties and less frustration for players, a reworked sec status system with a -5 cap for people who’re only somewhat bad, and (eventually, sometime in the future) better battle reporting and way more API data for kills.

CCP Games seems to have acknowledged the fact that there isn’t a silver-bullet to address the issue of high-sec/null-sec aggression.

“Concord used to be simple, you killed a guy – got punished… then we started to add things”

The fact of CrimeWatch being over-stretched lead to several unwanted repercussions and so they have realized the need of a more fine-grained system.

Log off timers

There will be a single fifteen minutes log-off timer for almost every ship. As the system currently is an aggressed logged off ship gets an additional 15 min stacking timer every time it is aggressed.

For super-capitals the mechanic remains at it is, so don’t pipe-dream on log-off-skiing your super again to save it.

There will be a “safe log-off” option. From what I understood the client will remain open allowing you to be notified whenever your ship disappears from space.

Three Player Status

Apart from being war decced, there will be three states a player can be in while in high-sec:

– Safe or Innocent status.
– Suspect status.
– Criminal status.

The first one is easy to explain, you have a good sec-status and you haven’t aggressed anyone. For the other two, things get a bit tricky.

Oh Snap! You got the space-AIDS

The new suspect flag allows anyone to shoot you without any penalty. Anyone assisting a suspect becomes a suspect. I really like this new mechanic. It basically means whenever someone assist another player – as in repping someone while this person aggressing you – will bring a huge smile to many seasoned players.

For example someone in an alt/NPC corp utilizing logistics to an aggressing war deccing corp member will be fair-game. In Jita 4-4 a lot of the station games with douche-filled groups like the Privateers Alliance utilize this non-aggressing logistic mechanic. I can imagine gankers lining up to take pot-shots at neut-corps logistic ships at Jita. Pretty good.

The criminal flag is the old Concordekken mechanic with a twist. While not specified, the concord ships might be switch for someone more efficient.

Sec Status

Velicia Tuoro summarized3 pretty well the new Sec status system:

– Kill someone while a suspect will only take you to -5
– Pod killing will take you below -5 to -10
– Killing someone with positive +5 gives you hit
– Killing someone with a negative sec gives you bonus
– Hand in tags for sec boost up to +5. Less effect if you are -5.
– Fixing rat spawns after downtime.
– -5 can be killed without penalty in low sec.
– Something about -5 in high sec being pursued.

During the Q/A session someone asked:

Q. Will still be a delay between agression and Concord getting to the offending player. guy scared for the ice interdiction to be over under new mechanics.
A. Maybe…

Another guy started bitching about how he wasn’t going to be able to “shield” his NPC corp logistics alts from aggression when giving reps to Factional Warfare members – the nerves!

Q. Are there any plans to put killmails for self destructing ships? *Applause*
A. Yes.

        You might want to specify that "there will be a single fifteen minutes log-off AGGRO timer for almost every ship". Logging off in space without aggro will remain the same.
