Do you like ganks? Do you like to see ice miners die? Do you like disco battleships? Do you like carebear tears? This one’s for you.

It seems 10 nearly identically fit Mackinaws were all mining ice together in empire. They seemed unfazed by the presence of another person in their belt. Without a cry of foul in local, or a single tear, they were turned to corpsicles and tasty salvage. This is the story of the fearless Perun Stormbringer (recently responsible for some trouble at Jita 4-4) and 2.8 billion isk worth of mining barges:

Ah, Angymonne. A solar system with not one, but 3 ice fields. One that features quite often on killboards, a system that claimed many an ice miners’ source of income.

Having had my security status lowered to -8 for my earlier Jita 4-4 dock smartbombing (if you need to take pod express down to null for a CTA, might as well do it in style), I ratted a bit and realised that getting myself up to reasonable security status would take too long. Considering that I only wanted the sec status to go ganking for fun again, I decided to see what I could do as an outlaw.

And so my alt went scouring ice mining systems, looking for targets of opportunity. Having been burned before by attacking a fleet of overtanked Mackinaws boosted by Orca with shield harmonising link, I now carefully followed my motto of “scan before fun”.

And then I came across something wonderful. Something so atrocious that I couldn’t help but cry out in indignation – “This must end!”. I found a mining fleet actively tanking with civilian boosters while being active shield link boosted by an Orca. As I scanned them one by one (passive atrgeter, of course), while salvaging the nearby NPC wrecks between scans (not to arouse unnecessary suspicions), I suddenly began drooling. The sight of juicy T2 cargo rigs told me – this is it. This is the target I was searching for. Making sure that my alt bookmarks their mining spot, I set off to prepare. And so my alt gets into an Orca of his own and flies me a discophoon to the station in the system (in cargohold, since Orcas can’t fit a battleship into ship bay). He then positions himself off grid, ready to salvage.

I fly my outlaw pod into the system and get the bookmarks with the ship and fittings. One fully fit battleship ready, I prepare to undock. Due to my outlaw status, I will be beset upon by the navy long before CONCORD intervention, but the warp stabs should help me with their scrambling. After all, I just ned to get to my target. After that they can tackle me all they want. I undock and nearly have a heart attack as I get bumped off alignment by an undocking Orca (too many carebears…). But shortly afterwards my ship is in warp. I land close to the mining fleet and start the disco. In the middle of my attack, an additional Mackinaw warps in, deciding to bring the number of my targets to an even 10. I am, of course, grateful to him for being so considerate.

By the time CONCORD arrives, the grid is littered with pods that disappear after another cycle of my smartbombs. Seeing local drop by 10, I can’t help but smile as my ship is reduced to a smouldering wreck by what can only be described as a blatant display of police brutality.

My alt warps in and starts salvaging as I dock up and turn off FRAPS. The video of the attack is available for your viewing pleasure:

Orca was manned, since it looted the wrecks before I warped my alt to them (was too busy paying attention to the ganker window, laughing and looking at killmails). Still managed to salvage the lot, but only for about 30 mil worth of blue salvage (unlucky, only a single intact armour plate). Quite possibly and even likely the miners themselves were bots.

The miner bots i've seen always have 1 real and any number of bots. The owner is almost always with them.

Though sometimes hilarious solo wrecks are found in the belts from rats.

What usually happens is they web first, and the webbing helps you warp faster. If you were to actually just sit there, you would eventually be scrammed too.

you're fooling yourself, it was bot. 3, maybe 4 macks, and I'd consider it was just a really nerdy determined miner. But 9 or 10?

      1. Anonymouse

So, let's see… a block of ice is 1000m3. A mack makes 4 per 5 minutes and can hold at least 8000m3. So, basically it can go 10 minutes between the time that it needs attention (dropping the cargo on the orca). Ice asteroids never deplete either. This is completely doable even if you're completely retarded. This means you'll have one full minute per 10 mackinaws to literally drag and drop the ice cargo.

not saying it's impossible mouse, but… 10 macks? just running two miners can be a task in an ice field. At that point you're not playing anymore, and might as well be a bot. I could only ever be convinced it was a corp's set of macks and they were out collecting ice. If that was one guy actually handling all that, he stopped enjoying eve a long time ago lol

no need for ganking ect, also would make it far easier to find them and without concords interference. With ice being only Low/Null botting would be far harder and far less lucrative.

doesn't sound like bots, more like ships owned by the corp and flown by it's members.
anyhoo, very brave to blow up ships which can't defend themselves.

btw, the first T2 item in the game was a mining laser.
and at least half of the EVE community went nuts with joy.
if the first T3 items would've been a mining laser, then it would've been disappointment all around…

botters need to die, corps that have fleets of mining ships need to die, bravery and cruelty have their similarities, ccp needs to make the first t3 mod a mining laser so ppl are encouraged to mine more, thus giving us more targets of hilarity

The strangest thing about this article was the "tears" part of the title. A botter couldn't care less about ship losses. Sitting in the ice field during the goonie retard rage, I would always see the same bots come back no matter how many ganks. "Tears" were not involved. Unless you cry while touching yourself during a miner gank, which I suspect most miner gankers do… lol

Lolz can be had with t2 fit rookie ships if you got 9-10 of you, just gonna cost you a couple o' guns and about 6 rounds of ammo and you're good to go. Could prolly just bio-mass a crappy alt every now and again and you wouldn't even have to worry about sec status but you're prolly gonna need a few more heads if you ain't t2 fit, perfect for the lemming fleets, not seen one of those in a while.

OK then, don't biomass your crappy alt, (like :CCP: is gonna wield the banhammer over suicide rookie ships LOL) Police ships on gates can't even tackle a BC before it warps away so rookie ships can just wait in low sec till they get a warp in on some unsuspecting bear and you're good to go, again. Violation of the eula….lol.

You see, you can gank those bots all you want they will always come back unless ccp starts banning them, and the reason they will come back is because actual person doesnt waste his own time to mine, he sets up and leaves his pc, mined all his losses back up with the minimum effort and time spent. So, as you can see, as much pleasure as this gives us, it is not solving the problem at all, unfortunately. And what is worse for the miners who do this manually to earn cash is those damn bots mine 23/7 and keep the prices very low and not worth the effort for the real miner to mine the ice, now check this out, we are stuck in a circle, you are happy to have cheap isotopes but unhappy to have bots, make up your minds already, which one is it?

    February 2, 2012 at 10:06 am Reply
    1. LOL

Hint: get bots! who the fuck mines 'manually' these days? ISK / hr ratio is SHIT so no wonder ppl are using bots …

PS: In court is close to impossible to prove some one is a bot BTW – this is why CCP changed their policy, they used to temporarily ban bots. Probably some one sued them and no more ban's 😉 Another thing close to impossible to prove is account sharing -> also rarely punished by CCP – same reason: impossible to prove. Even if you have 2 different connections 5 minutes a part with IP's 10.000 km apart you can still use VNC 😉 Besides they have to prove you are guilty and not you to prove your innocence 😉
