We received a youtube link yesterday.  Amidst the fierce combat, it seems Raiden decided to test a theory.  The theory that they have enough titans to doomsday a titan.

They do.

Welcome to a new era of supercapital warfare. Keep shooting.

Even more reason to scale titan dd to sig radius and reduce target sig radius by x where x is the number of active locks on a target. 10 titans lock a titan 11th titan should take 20 minutes to get a lock.

I don't think Goon Command has had much love for supers for too long to promote their use by having a replacement plan. I can only hope their out-of-game efforts (CSM, etc) to change supers is more effective than their in-game efforts.

They don't need a buff and only need a slight nerf if any. Maybe a slight tracking nerf so they can't hit cruisers and battlecruisers (unless they are dumb and burn in a straight line towards their enemy) would be acceptable but they should still annihilate battleships when there is enough titans. It is not anybody's fault but goons that their sole fleet ships are maelstroms and hurricanes. You can't alpha titans goonswarm stop trying to.

            January 25, 2012 at 1:42 am
          2. Tiniff

titans dont need to be nerfed anymore. and they cant hit bc and cruiser without proper support and thats OK. Titans are even balanced in that way that an Alliance with not that much members is able to kompensate less fleetmember with more expensive ships.

Its called MANING UP and bringing your supers. Its not an I-WIN button, they can go down just as easy as the next ship if you know how to fight them. Its chicken shits like goons that are afraid of bring thier big toys to the game. Why have supers if you won't use them? In that case nerf ALFA strike ships because they don't let logi lock on them fast enough before the ship is dead… That way its more of a balance between using rails or using atrillary, hell even lasers :) Alpha is like a mini I-WIN if you think about it. Stop your bitching and grow a pair BRING YOUR SUPERS.

I feel i have earned my keep, Constantly ratting and working towards and very expensive ship that i cannot even dock. You get what you pay for…

"Why have supers if you won't use them? "

because CCP can't realistically remove them from game at this point :/

            January 25, 2012 at 9:32 am
          6. He who was there

Solution 1: make them easier to destroy. This removes them indirectly
Solution 2: make them more expensive. Single investement cost doesn't work. It would only delay the aquisition rate, so monthly upkeep.
Solution 3: make them need maintenance. They need to go into a CSAA for X days all Y days or they disable all modules. This blocks construction of new super capitals in the CSAA and puts some of them out of active combat reducing the number of fieldable ones. Might even cause fights to happen more over CSAA towers.
            Solution 4: …

There are lots of things that *could* be done. The question is wheter CCP wants them more easily killed or rather reduce the number of how many can be active on the battlefield.

Or if they are fine with the current status, which basically means everyone's supposed to converge to a supercap pilot as career end target and we're supposed to really play the often mentioned "supercaps online".

If they go down as easy as any other ship than 100 maels should be able to alpha one.

From experience, 500 maels, can't alpha one. Sounds hard to kill to me.

            January 25, 2012 at 9:33 am
          9. anonymous

Because you are trying to use an alpha ship to take down something with enough ehp to take the alpha of more maelstroms then you can field. You guys whine and complain but you don't adapt any other strategy and then cry all over the forums about how these titans are unbeatable. Yea they are when your only fleet type is to bring as many maels as possible, alpha doesn't work against something with that much ehp newbs. It is a titan it is supposed to be hard to kill other wise it would cost as much as a dreadnaught. And to the goon whose complaining about blues how about you take a look at how many people are in your coalition. You are the last people that can complain about blues right now. We aren't just going to let you steamroll the north so man up and try to use a new strategy.

          10. Titan Pilot

LOOK AT THE MONEY DIFFERENCE, srsly you want to alpha a titan with 100 maelstroms, that would be a bad investment if you ask me, bring about 70+ bill worth of maelstroms and you just might get what you want… until that day stop complaining coz your too poor to enjoy the game.

            January 25, 2012 at 11:44 am
          11. rara

Assuming 10k alpha per Maelstrom and 50m EHP for the titan, you need 5000 Maelstroms to alpha it. At about 200m ISK per Maelstrom, you're looking at ~1 trillion ISK. That's over an order of magnitude greater than your estimate.

Additionally, 70 billion ISK worth of Maelstroms is only 350 Maels, which the CFC have certainly fielded before.

            January 25, 2012 at 2:52 pm
          12. He who was there

People like throwing around uninformed numbers.

The problem, by the way is not that single titan. A single titan dies. Rather ask yourself how to engage 20 titans. Or 40. Or a supercap blob of 100 supercapitals.

These things have no counter except bigger numbers of the same. That breaks the rock-paper-scissor thing. All other shipclasses have valid counters, this has not.

The question is solely if that is ok within the game, considering that more supercaps are being built than destroyed and if CCP would rather have more of them killed or make it more difficult to field them in numbers (reduce concurrent use). The last one would be possible to add "sov upkeep" to titans for example. Each titan costs 25% of build cost every month of disables all modules. Bam immediate reduction of titans in active use. Just an idea, but there are multiple venues CCP can go IFF they think the current proliferation and blobbing of basically mega EHP ships is a problem.

They are the only things that don't get alpha'd by maelstroms. They should look into that as well. Why my tengu even has a chance of dieing at any range to their artillery is game breaking.

Honestly, the problem with supers is they take a long time to get, but once you get them, their replay value is limited. They contribute heavily to bittervet syndrome.

Players spend years working to fly one, but most people only play with those things for a few months before many stop playing Eve. Because they simply aren't enough fun to warrant the time and effort spent getting them. It is extremely rare that they see combat where there is enough risk to provide that excitement that people crave from PVP in Eve.

Sure supers are being fielded against supers right now. They cannot logout. Sure, the risk has increased for flying them. I doubt any more supers are dying now, on average, than before. It is the same: join fleet, jump to cyno, kill as much as you can before it escapes.

I am not saying this only from my perspective. There are a lot of super pilots who aren't playing anymore. For this very reason. They finally get this ship they've spent all this time and effort working to get… and it is boring.

The supercap pilots you're reffering to are playing in alliances that don't use supercaps. On alliances that actively use supercaps (PL and raiden) you see very few inactive supercap pilots. Shitty alliance leadership is the leading cause of afk supercaps, not bitterness.

            January 25, 2012 at 4:26 pm
          19. bagehi

Actually, no. I interviewed one of the super cap FCs from PL a little while ago and he had stated that they have had similar issues as every other alliance with keeping super pilots logging in. I've spoken to other major alliance FCs who have stated the same. Again, I'm not saying this from my experience.

          20. anonymous

I think the problem is that it is impossible to have fun in a ship worth that much. There are no carefree titan losses because they are so hard to get and it is detrimental when you lose one to your enemy so you don't take any chances with them. If you get caught doing something stupid with one of those ships you are most often asked to leave the alliance. It is a lot more pressure then fun owning them.

you know that only worked because the titan was all alone after it got bumped. In any other circumstance enough dreads would have been instantly wiped out that the supers would rep that titan

      January 24, 2012 at 7:48 pm Reply
      1. raptor217

If they're able to drop 100 dreads they'll be doing about 5 million alpha. Their supercarriers would be taken out in 5-6 shots. Raiden's 50 super carriers can't tank that. Any triage carriers would have to be on the field already (getting alpha'd by 600 goon maels) and on the ball to have any hope. Also titan bumps are inevitable, and titans are hard to replace while dreads can be built relatively quickly and only cost 400m to replace if insured. Their dreads are set to tank 3-4 dooms days (they only drop armor supers so they can tank em/therm DD's) and once Raiden titans are out of doomsdays goons can bring in a small super fleet and leverage that to their advantage. Titans won't be able to tank that.

yea.. that is retarded. If you are going to do that with titans, might as well do it with all ships than to make it fair and square. So now if that were to be implemented there will be no big battles bigger than 15 people? wow you are so smart

You don't seriously think Mittani is going to spend that much ISK on the alliance when he would rather it go to his personal wallet do you? What he then does with it as far as I am concerned I have no idea but I have heard things like RMT, etc which really isn't a great idea.

The goons may have mainly lower end SP characters, but when you have a situation where they just keep coming & coming (good numbers) no matter how many of them you kill it is inevitable that they will win sometimes.

As for Mittani doing anything for the game through the CSM I really wouldn't hold my breath waiting. The sooner they change the rules on who can be in the CSM & how long they can keep being elected back in the better as he has run his race & as far as many are concerned has come out lacking.

Meh, Goons only had 2 Titans in that fight. Anyhow, if you take a look at the killboards for most of the fights like this you'll see that Goons blobb with Alpha Meals.

While Raiden. blobb with dozens of titans and SCs, which obviously wipes out most subcaps with ease.

Actually there were a lot more CFC supers that showed up on the mail – it's just that the 70+ dreads killed the Erebus so fast they couldn't even get on the mail.

Yeah, I didn't mean exactly that fight though. I meant most of the the fights before that one, Alpha Maels from the CFC and superblobbs from Raiden.

Pretty predictable moves from both sides.

It seems to me that the new log off mechanic changed supers, and how they work.
Back in the dayes, a big super fleet could engage another bog super fleet, and if things turned sour, you could log off, and maybe loose 6-7 titans.

now, if u commit to a fight. u win or die! for a singel pilot, this is not such an issue. but if a big alliance looses all it supers in one fight. that alliance can just disband. there is not alot u can do hitting on 150 super caps with only maybe 1200 subcaps.

gief old mechanic back, and lets see some supers burn!

  39. Having enough titans to DD volley an enemy titan is definitely not a new concept, it has been around for a long ass time, and has been used in pretty much every major super v super engagement. Have enough DD's to get rid of maybe the first 1 1/2 titans then try and have either enough tank or enough luck to minimise the return volley.
