If you have flown through the western part of Eve in the last year or so, you may have noticed a few different alliances in Fountain.  Test Alliance Please Ignore (here after referred to as Test because I’m not going to keep typing out their fifteen mile long name), you may have come across before, makes up the majority of the residents of the area.  The next largest alliance is Important Internet Spaceships League (here after BDEAL because a four word name, really?), a generally carefree bunch of hooligans, including myself.  Another presence in the area is The G0dfathers (here after referred to as Godfathers because I refuse to put a zero in there again).

A little background on Godfathers. Godfathers was founded by two, former SoT (Sons of Tangra), corps after IT steamrolled much of Fountain. Godfathers moved to Geminate as a guest of RAGE, and by extension the Northern Coalition. They roamed DRF space during their time there, before IT began threatening the NC (which is what BoBKennyITRaiden have historically done). They deployed on the frontlines of the defense of the NC against IT. As that war ground on, Godfathers eventually left the NC/Goons to finish off IT (which eventually happened… again). They returned to the core of Fountain to live again like they had as SoT. They gave up on Sov as the boring side of PVP, and formed a small circle of blues in the Serpentis Prime NPC pocket.

Fast forward to the present day. Godfathers are still living in the Serpentis Prime pocket.  It has quite a few stations in the pocket, but is plagued by 4 entrance gates and is crisscrossed by jump bridges controlled by the sov holders around them.  In short, it isn’t an easily defended pocket, so ratting/missions are not for the faint of heart.  Godfathers are, fortunately for them, heavily focused on PVP.  At one point, the corp I’m in had considered joining their alliance, but our carebears balked and the rest of the pilots simply were not keen on being in NPC space (so we went through a few failcascade alliances before ending up in BDEAL, their nemesis).

Shortly after Godfathers moved in, they began raiding Test and BDEAL space, culling the stupid/drunk/AFK herd of ratters.  BDEAL and Test would, in turn, raid Godfathers space.  Catching their ratters and the small PVP gangs they run.  After a few months, BDEAL began focusing some more coordinated attacks on Godfathers for the following offenses:  terrible local smack, and the “smell of boiled cabbage that wafts in our direction from NPC space.”

The culmination of the offensive was this battle, where Godfathers were relieved of several carriers.  Fighting died down substantially after that.  Then the Delve invasion kicked into high gear, and people deployed south for the festivities (AKA falling asleep while shooting structures ad infinitum).  Godfathers likely noticed a drop in the attacks on their space and seem to have begun roaming the surrounding space heavily again.  As Delve began being boring “fleet up to shoot another timer!  Yay!”  people were back in Fountain again.

Over the Thanksgiving vacation (for those not from the United States, it is an excuse for families to get together and collectively eat until they can’t stand), Godfathers formed up a few larger fleets (a couple dozen ships) and hit BDEAL space.  Their initial attack on the central BDEAL system of TEG apparently emboldened them.

After forming up an HD fleet to kill a dozen BDEAL battlecruisers that had roamed into the NPC pocket (the BDEAL gate camp ran), Godfathers continued building their fleet. The fleet eventually was roughly the same size, with a slightly heavier ship composition.  With some tweaks, the Godfather’s fleet set off for BDEAL space.

Callum, has a love for killing Godfathers.   Emboldened by how well BDEAL had defended TEG the previous day, Callum called up a home defense fleet.  Unfortunately for Callum and the rest of the HD fleet, the defense fleet composition was nearly identical fleet doctrine and fewer ships.   Godfathers, on the other hand, planned their fleet around defeating the previously engaged BDEAL fleet.  They came with neuts and ECM to shut down the carriers and logistics and ranged weapons to break the drake-heavy BDEAL fleet.

Godfathers, obviously, have spies in BDEAL and their FC is provided an relatively accurate ship count and composition of the BDEAL fleet (according to reports).  They giddily jump into TEG and find the BDEAL HD fleet on the gate with them.  As the Godfather’s FC begins calling targets, the BDEAL fleet cross jumps them back into J-RQMF.  The BDEAL fleet  finds a lone Onyx with his bubble up on the other side and make short work of him.  While they are shooting up the Onyx, the Godfathers’ fleet has burned back to the J-R gate and begins jumping in.  Over confidence being the great enemy, the BDEAL fleet begins to spread out with dreams of killing everything.  Callum orders a cyno lit and a couple carriers jump in.  The idea was, apparently, to make up for a lack of numbers with the incredible repping power of carriers, as the BDEAL fleet was outnumbered ~30 to ~60.

The carriers put up a valiant effort keeping the BDEAL fleet alive, but it can be incredibly difficult to do when your cap is at risk and the enemy are fielding alpha ships.  As BDEAL ships began dropping the fleet coordination diminished rapidly, even though moral remained high.  Pilots were reshipping and returning to the fight by blind jumping back into J-R.  Both BDEAL and Godfather reports suggest roughly 4 waves of BDEAL reinforcements were fielded. The longer the fight wore on, the more chaos ensued.  Godfathers began sending bombing runs on the subcaps to disrupt the carrier’s ability to rep the primaried ships.

From the looks of things, some pilots reshipped to their faction fit ratting boats in the end.  Too head off what was rapidly becoming a disaster, Callum bat phoned Test who are based only a few jumps away.  Just before the Test reinforcement fleet arrives, Godfathers were able to finish off a BDEAL Nidhoggur.  Test jumped in and Godfathers burned off.  A few straggler Godfathers were taken out by Test fleet, but a good chunk of the fleet was able to get away.

In the end, Godfathers pull off a win, and some bragging rights.  BDEAL goes back to the drawing board.

A few quotes from players involved:

Alright Chaps after last nights absolute fucking fuck up all the fleet commanders got together and really thought about what we should do for the future…

… well surprisingly they didn’t manage to kill us all even though we were out numbered.  the carriers did a good job with the reps but what went wrong was the fact that too many small groups jumped in and obviously got killed fast.

… from our perspective we found it ammusing that they failed to appraise the situation or even “focus fire” on our pilots. This is something that occurs from time to time when fighting their fleets, but was not expected on this occasion.

I wouldn't call it epic, but it looks like people had fun and ships died.

  2. A couple of factual discrepencies here. The Godfathers do not live in Serpentis Prime, we live out of WY-9LL. We had 51 in the fleet throughout the battle, not 60.

"from our perspective we found it ammusing that they failed to appraise the situation or even “focus fire” on our pilots. This is something that occurs from time to time when fighting their fleets, but was not expected on this occasion." is a quote from DADDY not from BDEAL.

Serpentis Prime POCKET. It is the capital system of that NPC, so the pocket is named after it.

I was told 22 v 56, 27 v 52, and 20 v 50 from the people who reported on the fight. I'm trying to find a way to view the video so I can give accurate numbers, but haven't had any luck yet.

"A few quotes from players involved:" not quotes from BDEAL.

We have been dormant for a while simply due to having real life commitments to work to. The alliance typically is pretty quiet during summer and gets active again around the winter.

Hell Yeah! It was EPIC. And about the part with outnumbering… I can see a lot of TEST/BDEAL pilots on the Godfathers side on the killboard, so everyone can make the count… plus, in youtube You all can see the fleetcount. :)

Both sides said Test showed up at the end and killed some Godfathers who were tackled. Both BDEAL and Godfathers reshipped, throwing off numbers as well. Godfathers came out with bragging rights from the amazing isk kill:death ratio though.

I did enjoy the adrenalin rushes of sparring with the G0dfathers when i was in Test, my corp use to live a couple of jumps away, so we'd regularly see them peek in to say hello.

We regularly ran gate camps into our system too and cleaned up any of the regular session changers, and we use to hit their towers with regularity as well, but rarely did we down them, we enjoyed the fighting :))

It's awesome to see them doing something fun!

The Daddy killboard was the one they sent in. Assumed they would send in the killboard that put them in the best light.

EDIT: Not sure if you realize this, but that 182 includes pods. Add up the kills on the Daddy board. Identical:

      Ships Killed: 182 (8.67B ISK)

      Ships Lost: 20 (1.33B ISK)

      Efficiency: 86.72% (ISK)

So, the only difference is that Vlast lost 4 ships/pods that were not included on the Daddy board.

I realize the pocket is heavily farmed. However, I haven't seen Godfathers in ratting fits when I've roamed the pocket (limited information), and their bio and diplo both referred to the alliance as PVP-centric. Because I shoot them, it would come across as biased to say otherwise.

most of the the godfather mission runners never stray more than 1-2 jumps out of WY (their main staging system) and they have active scouts in almost all the fountain core systems. its not like test has not made a attempt at killing godfather mission runners. they have lived in fountain longer than most of its current SOV holders and have the advantage of asymmetrical warfare.

As a member of GodFathers fleet at the time, I can only point that BDEAL fleet wasnt, in fact, outnumbered by 30-60 at any point in time. Well, when there was a fleet to speak of. The last BDEAL wave was heavily disorganized and they were jumping in a few at a time..

Not a bad battle report, maybe a few biased opinions but no Big DEAL (see what I did there? :P).
