Yesterday marked the first clear victory for the Deklein Coalition’s Welpcane doctrine, as they strolled boasting numbers and a quite homogeneous fleet throughout the Tribute Region, their destination was the DL1C-E Solar System, where a faithful and un-proven fleet doctrine might turn itself into the new Flavor of the Month, given their effectiveness.

The following battle report is an account by a Deklein Coalition member, be mindful of this while reading.

BOOYAH! – Raiden. Super-Capitals fell victim of Deklein Coalition’s Machinations.

– This was a warm and humid Saturday evening for us EU TZ dudes. We sat idly in VFK-IV exchanging stories of a humorous nature polishing our Welpcanes for our next fight. I was in a crucial part of changing the windscreen wiper on my Cane when Mister Vee popped up and screamed ‘WELPFLEET!’. The windscreen wiper was going to have to wait.

We bridged into the only GSF system left in Tribute, YLS8-J. There were IRC in their Hellcats SBU’ing the system and hitting our IHUB in a rather cheeky fashion. Mister Vee was quite chipper and started us on their Abbadons and we started to melt em quite quickly. IRC then got on the batphone to NCDOT who promptly hotdropped our welpcanes with a 50man supercap gang. We could have taken the hellcats, but this was too much, so we tactically advanced to our safepos.

White Noise decided to join the fight

With a mix of 20 titans, 50+ supers and a lot of carriers with NCDOT and IRC hellcat gangs, they then reinforced our safepos. Some cheeky goon bubbled their titan on the pos and you could smell the fear of the Erebus sweating it out till the bubble dropped.

Eventually the supers jumped out and left a small hellcat gang. We then engaged the remants as the rest of the reds leave system. Mister Vee wasnt happy. They came for a fight, but kept dropping supers on our Welpfleet, and we had the taste of blood. After much too-ing and fro-ing, we finally gave chase trying to track them down.

Eventually we catch the IRC hellcats next door in DL1C-E. They probed us down in our deep safe and engaged. This was all part of the plan (why go to the mountain, when the mountain can come to us?).

Vee engaged their hellcats with much vigor and bubbled all their fleet. They were melting quick, T3, Command Ship, Baddon, Guardian …bang!…bang! …bang!…..they were bubbled, they couldn’t escape.

NCDOT’s Batphone gets Ringing

NCDOT jumped in carrier support to help with the reps and they became primary, and melted as quick as the abbadons. Those carriers stood no chance against the mighty welpfleet. Supers then bridged in to assist and whilst targets were called, I thought to myself ‘Isn’t a Hel a supercap?’. We started to burn through its shield tank quickly as if it wasnt there and then BANG! Mister Vee’s first Welpcane superkill under his command. Trying not to let the joy overcome us, we contined on the carriers until he calls a second super (Wyvern). This was starting to get laggy but guns were still cycling automatically even though we had supers on grid.

Could we get a Second?

In our excitement on killing caps, the IRC subcaps warped away leaving their Allies Supers vulnerable.
As we ground down the Wyvern, NCDOT had batphoned their big brother RaidenDOT (these guys love their DOT’s) who jumped in their Titans and supers. The wyvern was in armour, then structure, lag starting to take hold of guns, titans then DD’ing Mister Vee, but the order still stood “TILL DEATH! The Wyvern must die!”. We had the Wyvern with 5%hull left…..then the reps came. We were fighting reps and slither by slither the hull went down as titans started popping canes like balloons.

Then Pop! Confusion emerged. Lag suddenly cleared and the we lost half of the fleet in 5 secs as the titans mammoth guns fired and fragged our fleet, and we had lost lock on the wyvern. ‘It’s Dead’…..’ECM Burst’…..’No Wreck’…..and then floating in my pod, I saw the most beautiful sight…..’Yellow Wreck – We popped the bugger!

The job was done and I was promptly returned home courtesy of a NCDOT Nyx’s smartbomb. I dont know how many canes got out, nor did we care. We totally buggered Raiden and killed many carriers, baddons and 2 supers.

It took a while for the hype to die down, and as I saw the Windscreen Wiper of the Cane I had lost in battle on the floor of my hanger, I picked it up, dusted it down and placed it in a frame…..’From the Cane that died gloriously in battle to IRC, WN, NCDOT, Raiden’.

Why? Because we can!

Losing two supers is far worse than losing a fleet based off the idea dying.

      1. Fail is still fail

Why is losing two supers worth less money worse than losing a fleet worth more money? It still takes 29 days to build 210 hurricanes. It's still T1 production. It still requires just as many macro'rs in deklein to mine mins as it does in tenal. Where is the logic that a fleet based on dying is ok? We died because we wanted to is the same as saying I suck at eve because I'm stupid.

        welp fleet is still fail.

        September 12, 2011 at 8:58 pm Reply
        1. Nope

Because you don't build hurricanes 1 at a time like you do supers. Plus it's FAR easier to stockpile hundreds of hurricanes than it is for supers.

        2. yes, all GSF hurricanes are built off the same BPO.

Losing 2 supers hurts a lot more than losing 210 canes that were supposed to be lost. If you go into a battle planing to die it isn't really a big deal when it happens. If you go into a battle with 14 titans, 30 supers, and a bunch of carriers against a subcap fleet and still lose 2 supers and a handful of carriers that is going to sting a hell of a lot more. I bet goons were way happier when leaving than Raiden. was. They accomplished their missions of killing supers and dying trying. Oh and that KB has goons having lost 2 supers so pull 36b off Raiden.'s kill value. Then there are some other missing caps that haven't shown up on the Raiden. killboard for the battle but are on others. So the isk war was won and so was the moral war. All the goons didn't do was hold the field but that wasn't an invasion it was specifically to kill supers and they achieved it.

Why are you trying to compare cane production to super production? They aren't even close to being the same. I guess it takes the same time if 1 person does it but yea I guess building hurricanes is the same as building supercaps if you are a retard.

          Good luck spinning it more.

You might also notice that in Raiden.'s Related Kills there is a Wyvern, a Hel, and several assorted regular Carrier kills which are being counted towards Raiden's total ISK amount (note that Goons didn't use capitals in this engagement).

This happens because of things like ECM burst or smartbombs hitting everything around them, and one Raiden. Supercarrier hitting ECM burst will get all losses on grid counted as kills too.

So, take about 40b off the Raiden side (17b per SC and 1b per carrier) and you'll get a much better idea of how much the Clusterfuck actually lost ISK wise (ie not that much at all). Raiden. wins the ISK war if you count killing your own supercapitals as winning.

First off, compare RaidenDot's KB to GSF, they seem to vary a bit (as stated in the article, given the API shenanigans taking place, this is understandable).

Even if the KB proves accurate, in this case the ISK war is not a clear cut 'we destroyed more isk, therefore we win' situation due to having a case of subcaps vs supercaps.

      I'll explain:

You as an individual pilot can lose and replace a welpcane fairly easily on your own if you have to (and you can do it often). If it is reimbursed by the alliance (which is very likely not a 100% reimbursement, which means the cost of the loss is divided between the player and alliance), it's even less on the pilots, and not a heavy burden on the alliance, and therefore you can continuously do this for a long time, and often.

Whereas even if the super losses are 100% reimbursed by the alliance, how often can the alliance sustain that (bear in mind the amount of time is takes to even build a super when the 'stockpile' runs low).

A welpcane fleet can be ready at a moments notice, welped, and then have new canes for the entire fleet ready again in minutes. Try doing that with a super.

This battle is a case study, the first true test of welpfleet's effectiveness.

I think the answer to the question of welpfleet's effectiveness will be whether or not alliances like RaidenDot can continuously replace supers quickly, and how many times over a prolonged period.

Look at the BR Summary Doctor. 72 Hurricanes (fitted/insured/ammo/drones) costing about 63mil each (GSF price tag) equals 4.4 bil. Each NCdot Adabbon costs in average 250 mil (because the PVP pros use some faction hardeners here and there, some Meta 4 mods and what not) times 19 lost equals 4.7 bil.

But then you have to add 10 carriers.

      And 1 super.

Oh, and don't forget, 4 faction fitted T3 worth 3.7 bil.

Tell me, who won the isk war?

Interesting views. Though basically everything to do with IRC is wrong.

It was planned that we would be in YLS8 with NCdot. NCdot had their SBU's coming online at about 18:00. We formed up, about 150 abaddon fleet.
NCdot had their 100+ god knows how many supers. We never controlled their super cap movements, if they came in or not, it was entirely their choice.

When we had the only main engagement, the welpfleet came in, and both IRC + NCdot engaged the welp fleet. Not sure who's ships the OP figured was burning down, but it wasn't IRC's. We only lost 2 or 3 ships for the entire engagement, with a couple fast movers getting pop'd a while later.

After NCdot's supers reinforced the iHub, we decided to destroy the Cyno gen and Jump bridge at the goon pos. Goons for the most part stayed inside the pos during this.
There was an attempt to bait them out of the pos by leaving a couple supers having everyone else warp off. Nothing really happened there, and eventually we just came back to the pos and got the supers off the pos.

What happened over the next half hour or so, was basically nothing. We warped to a gate, goons would warp to another, we'd warp after them, they would warp back to their pos.

We then got sick of waiting for a fight, and everything we had set out to do was done, so we started to move towards UMI-KK. There was a tense few minutes where we thought there was going to be a fight in UMI on the gate.

NCdot then said "wait here, we're going in" because goons were supposedly on the other side of the gate, and they wanted us to catch the ones who came through to our side. A few minutes later, all they said was "go dock up, we just lost our fleet" Which we thought sucked, because it meant we missed the real fight because no one called for help.

10 minutes later, we bridged out, and were about 12 jumps away before someone said "Raiden just lost a Hel". When we had left Y8SL-J, as far as we knew, any supers were safe and off the field.
At no point did anyone tell us their supers were in trouble (or even on field)

just going to toss this up here, losing 72 canes at 60 million each comes out to about 4.3b. Toss a few scimi's, a claymore that gets DD'd, and you're sitting around 5.5b losses before insurance. The proteus/damnations/loki's and thanatos/archons that they killed made them easily even on isk/isk. Then consider the fact that they decimated several(18 by my count) abaddons early on in the fight, and now they're winning in the iskwar.

Add a wyvern and a Hel on top of that and attempt to claim the drf even came close to winning the iskwar.

A note though, the ONLY reason this was achievable was because they didn't drop titans until the very end. The loss of ganglinks, instakilling the opponents FC, decimating their logistics and HIC's.. I will never understand what CCP was thinking when they decided that this was how to balance Titans after the old DD nerf.

    September 12, 2011 at 10:58 pm Reply

In fairness to CCP, the old DD would have wiped out the FC, logistics, HICs, AND all the canes too. It does stop fights either way though, which is just plain wrong (no fun at all).

GSF in first fight was Obliterated, dl1c fight was where we lost alot not because of wits or skillz, but 150+ canes do kill fast, if there wasn't lag, and a few other things not worth mentioning here it wouldn't have worked out like that.

I rather have 200 killmails in 1 day, than 2 supers anyday though 😀

First they get caught with excellent work from cloaky dictors. those wich were used by the fleet to get them at 0. they didint warped away when they should.

When Nc./raiden lighted the first cyno.. Goons were runing away.. at perfect range for abbadons to instapop them, raiden/nc. werent able to bubble them so they warped away with minimal losses at this point..

2cnd part of the engage damnation kill: after that. The fucking fleet of abbadons/carriers and later supers warped at 0 yes at 0 of 150/200 canes WTF MAN big Fail. warp at 70km next time so they cant warp at you even if they have a warp point near you as they did before.

They also didint kill too much scimitars until the end of the battle. you can see how goons say in fleet chat.. Thanks logis!!

Ahhh how I remember the days when GS would say "We don't care we have a -30b loss on that battle, all that matters is we held the system!" or other bs. I guess whether the isk war matter or not depends on what side of the killmail you are and not who you are after all.
