Last night turned out to be a very positive one for the Northern Coalition on the other hand there has to be a mention to the technical difficulties (read CCP) experimented by both sites, as the dust settles, the battlereports start to pour in, we got several good views we would like to share

For starters, the O2O-2X solar system has been the arena of several fistcuff fights between the Northern Coalition and the Drone Russian Forces, from the conversations I have been engaging, regardless the results, both sides has been really enjoying these clashes (what use is to have a massive fleet if you are not going to use it), providing the much needed “family entertainment” for both sides.

During the whole duration of the battle, in my personal comms, a comment that was being repeated made allusion to a trap that was set by Yaay, the Northern Coalition fleet commander famous for having a knack of scoring highly effective titan kills (a feat unmatched in eve), thankfully a fellow Mostly Harmless [-42-] reader was kind enough to give us an in-deep view of how the trap was set:

After coming in and reinforcing the station (took about a minute, maybe 90 seconds) we all warped to a RAWR POS that was being erected and waited a few minutes.

On comms Yaay told all super-capital ships and regular capitals to jump out, except several carriers that has been fitted cynosural field modules fitted. Apparently at the same time on a different channel Yaay told the super-capitals to stay put. After jumping I loaded grid and heard them [the FCs] starting to shout on comms for bubbles, and for all the carriers to light their cynos. About 12 cynos went up and our whole capital fleet jumped back in. Lag wasn’t horrible to start, but got bad shortly as their caps and supercaps landed on us.

They apparently thought they were warping on top of a bunch of stragglers, hoping to grab a few easy kills before we were gone. Our hictors and dictors went to work and we started slowly taking out their titans. We almost lost one of our own, but he made it into the newly-online tower which had come up right next to him. We had one other titan that I saw jump out in about 40% armor. I was on rep patrol so I had a good idea who was getting hurt. After we killed the first three titans no one needed reps any more as they mostly logged or tried to break tackle and run. We killed every titan left on the field (a couple got away, there were just too many for our tacklers to keep them all held) we started on supercarriers. When the super-capitals were gone, the field was finally empty of hostiles. We began looting the field when a call went out for an enemy super-capital sighted on a hostile POS. We warped there and killed it as well as a support battleship that for some reason was far from the shields. We warped back to the battlefield and a hostile Aeon landed on us, and was shortly melted. At one point a hostile Erebus logged on, but he immediately warped even though it appeared he was in several bubbles. Lag again. Up till this point black screens and 15 to 20 minute mod delays were normal, but it started clearing up then. The Aeon was the last kill I saw before the majority of the fleet jumped out having looted the field.

We have been enhancing our coverage from the russian side (oh hai haters!), so we can provide a broader view of events, from the russian side we have this account:

The Solar Legion of Red Noise, was expecting the Northern Coalition to use their usual tactics and blob the O2O-2X system to reinforce the station and stay there. There was a plan to use that moment and to shoot POSes in nearby systems, leaving the fight for O2O-2X system to date of 18.03.2011 (last reinforce). NC used 50+ motherships and 12+ titans, this is the fleet which was seen in grid. After station fall in last reinforce, DRF command decided to wait and to see what will happen after. There was no chance to win jumping in a 700+ local system, with less people.

The main mistake was made by a scout, which informed the FCs that NC supercaps left the field. After, DRF fleet jumped into the system. First DRF Ragnarok was down in first seconds (took eight DoomsDay hits) by NC titans before he even managed to enable hardeners. The usual lag began and half of DRF fleet didn’t manage to load in to the system. Some of the supercaps pilots lost their connections and didn’t manage to get back in game during the battle. After situation was clarified, DRF FCs gave the command to supercaps to leave the battlefield. Some of them managed to escape.

Overall lag situation affect both fleets, however, NC managed somehow to bring more people in to the system and because they were in the system first, looks like they had little bit less problems with lag.

Our russian correspondent goes to comment his own personal view:

Support fleet stayed until the end to cover and assists supercaps as much as it was possible. Being in DRF Support Armor Fleet, I can confirm that overall the people was very calm and there was no panic, even when we already got the info that we were loosing this battle (don’t know how it was in the super-capital fleet, hope they also stayed calm).

There are some rumors that what happen was a trap prepared by NC FCs. If it really was, then NC did really good job.

Modules activation delay: 3-5 minutes
Login delay: 20 minutes

From DRF side: at the moment 6 titans and 12 motherships down.

After-fight debriefing also was without any emorages.

a Northern Coalition reader also bring us personal account:

A Capital fleet reinforced the O2O-2X station in under one minute. Then news come down that capital fleet was forming on the enemy side. A trap was set where on comm, Capital ships were told to jump out but on convo they were told to hold, the russian spies passed on the info that we were jumping out and russians jumped in. No titan on the Northern Coalition side got below half tank.

By the time time russians started warping, 3 titans were already down and the rest of the capitals remained trapped or running to the wind. Russians ran to the wind if they could and logged off or jumped out. After 10 min they started logging back in and more were killed including one or 2 more titans.

Not all killmails have been posted yet and some still seem to be coming in but it looks like 25 Supers were killed and approximately 9 of those are titans. the Northern Coalition lost zero titans yesterday during the fight, not one cap ship was destroyed at all.

The capital ship fleet commander (Yaay) pulled a rabbit out of a hat and showed the russians that having spies doesn’t always pay off.

After the fight, there were several instances that have yet to be resolved, CCP strikes again as ships from both sides has been reportedly destroyed several hours after they have logged out, this is a well known bug that some assure me CCP will have ironed out in about 18 months from now, the bug goes as this:

A pilot logs off but his ship does not dissapear, even after 15 minutes has passed, this has been reported even on systems were battles haven’t occurred, usually the ship doesn’t disappear until downtime, the bug has been reported to happen mostly to ships coming out of a “lag-fest”, the most high-profile victime of said bug seems to be Morsus Mihi’s [RAWR] titan pilot Deki, who has reportedly petitioned the matter to CCP, also there is the fact that serveral titans which has been reportedly downed yesterday have yet to show on the killboards.

We thank everyone who shared their views and reports and invite you to send us intel, comments and media to our address [email protected]

We also would like to thank Joao Santos for sending those wonderful screenshots of the battle.

This is 'normal', and the usual answer is "you knew it's a risk and you jumped" and you don't get reimbursed. Same as Uemon, where no NC supers got reimbursed i believe.

Deki is a different matter as support was contacted and GMs tried force disconnecting him, but failed, and the Rag was killed later. Still doubt it will be reimbursed though…

So then why feel compelled to make a point of it ? Because its just more propaganda that doesnt work on people over the age of 9. Last intel was the RUS FC's rage quit and ordered full retreat … in a calm relaxing and orderly fashion of course.

Epic fight, nice to see the DRF and NC going all out at eachother, no other conflict could fling around this much hardware, and it's a pleasure seeing it burn. This round goes to the NC, hopefully there will be another one for the armor timer of O2O…

I think -A- could throw around some hardware, and PL has a good-sized super-cap fleet. IT back before they died. Just hope Ruskies don't get gunshy and stop bringing the big ships.

I was there (mostly harmless), good fight, some nice coordination by our FCs to lure in the drf fleet.
The lag was atrocious for both sides, if there is anything at all that both our sides can agree in I think it would be that if ccp is going to make massive supercapital battles possible, they must make them work with as little lag as possible.
It is not fair for cap/supercap pilots (on both sides) to spend billions on these ships not to mention the real-time investment for skills only to have them lost due to lag. Losing them in a fair fight (as far as lag is concerned at least) is one thing.. to lose them without even being able to defend yourself/shoot back is another. I feel a little compassion for you DRF guys, can't imagine the frustration of trying to get out in a supercap but failing due to lag.

I don't think the degree of lag that was present is being accuretly expressed here.

Being in the alpha fleet, we were waiting to be bridged in as the word went out. Once the bridge order was given, everyone hit bridge – but only a very small amount of our fleet made it through. It took the Titan multiple bridge attempts to get the entire fleet into system, or to the session change wait.

Once you actually got the bridge activated and started to be switched to o2o, there was the big question of if the system would even load for you. Average load times were around the 20m+, with some of our guys not being able to get grid for over 2 hours. Those poor souls that relogged pretty much never got back in. Some poor sods were stuck in limbo for the entire duration.

Assuming you actually loaded in the system, the lag on the main grid was immense. When the system was hovering at 1,200 people, modules could take over 10m just to activate, let alone cycle. Turning your ship in any direction was even more of a battle and warping off was not possible for many of us until the system started to drop below 1,000 pilots.

If the Ruskies got it worse than us, then it is no wonder that we were able to take down so many supers. Lag won the battle, NC just lucked out a little better – which allowed us to make sure the ruskies didn't.

Meh, I didn't think it was that bad. I jumped in in a super at the peak of the fight. Didn't load initially, but after relogging loaded grid in <2 minutes. Modules were fine, bombers could be launched and recalled, outstanding calls were completed promptly… I just couldn't lock anything or join a fleet. No trouble with warp, etc.
