Northern Coalition (combined with ClusterFuck/Deklein/Pure Blind coalition/etc.) managed to get to the highest evolutionary step in game. Centralization and coordination on the leadership level combineed with 60k + players proves to be superior in every aspect as far as the endgame = territorial warfare.

The war in Fountain/Querious/Period Basis and Delve shows how 10k entity (IT+friends) is seriously unable to resist such force. We know IT is weakened and leadership inactive, but even in its highest strength, they would have lost the war anyway, it would take only a little bit longer. With IT almost gone, we should look forward and think of what will happen next and why should it bother us.

Future scenarios
There isnt simply enemy that can provide reasonable resistance to the NC outside of DRF (and that only wit PL support), which due to their shitty space and time zone preferance isn´t for the NC and their grunts the ideological preferable enemy like IT was. IT was great, as you could harvest emotions nonstop and due to the long hatred fro Bob/Kenzoku etc, it simply provided everyone from leadership to lowest players with satisfaction.

Some hope that after the war, NC will disintegrate into into smaller blocks? I don´t believe it, cause it would happen already long time ago, but Goonswarm/TEST vs RAWR/RAZOR is so unlikely due to the leadership being working together for years. You don´t fight friends, you keep them as close as you can,for What if situations.
StainWagon/AAA group? They killed INIT+co, but won´t provide much fun for the NC and not much resistance either. Their space due to no tech moons doesn´t really provide incentives to attack. These two groups can avoid each other, due to both knowing the outcome of a pointless war.

In time NC or its elements will clean out Providence just to annoy Evoke and NCDOT. Having space will be enough to generate tears. Probably some friendly elements will be put there or move there, maybe with CVA/AAA support. There will few resets come to ease the overpopulation (maybe severance/violent entity/demo hunters/etc.), but overall, NC has no need to change the winning concept. People seem to be happy and progression through order is on the way.

We should be happy too? I am not and that from different viewpoint which i will try to present.

Last big war
As much as it doesn´t look like, i think IT war is actual one of the last, maybe last big “enjoyable “sovereignty war and will see unchanged political situation for months forward. Lot of drama, emotions, failcascades, battle at the beginning. The North finally prevailed over South and tipped the balance to its side. This time it won´t come back, as the population distribution is off the limits. South is barely populated and entire region of the southeast are barren land – land of macros and farmers not living alliances.

The rest and those without space are weak and can play good fights and harassment games, but that is all. There are no hidden forces within empire. Without 0.0 resources you can´t build 0.0 empire. Outside of TESTm there wasn´t a new alliance successful in years and probably won´t be for years too due to reasons above.
As the old ones have such a head start, any better than average empire/new group players will gladly be welcomed to the old guard and forget about creating new groups.

Game concept of power
I don´t think NC did anything wrong, the game concept got mastered by the majority and they found the ideal way to deal with any enemy. This is natural in any game, where there are not game designed borders to prevent this (and i can´t imagine what kind of rules should be there, as people will always find a way). People flock to the winning side so long that the winning side is indestructable. People love winning, its much more satisfaction, more joy and in general, people avoid harder tasks, the younger the players, the more winning oriented they are.

Our 21st century society doesn´t forgive losing, and doesn´t value trying yet failing as acceptable. Win, profit and crushing defeat of your enemies is the only way to go. In such environment, there is no place for mistakes or failures, thats why so many people are attracted to big groups, coalitions or alliances.

The game was heading this way all the way from beginning, but instead of the 3-4 blocks we had few years ago, we are down to 1 superpower and several smaller ones now (DRF and StainWagon/AAA) and tiny leftover pieces (Ev0ke/NCDOT).

To prove how effective the NC is, look at current conflicts – DRF/Ev0ke efforts are easily halted just by eastern NC groups, middle fights PL efficiently and south pushes IT out fast. 3 scenarios both controlled by one entity fighting the rest.

The balance is ultimately broken if one block is so big that it can take easily on the rest and win. NC is there and will be there for months, maybe years to come. Does it make the game worse or better?

Why should i care?
Depends on view. It will certainly halt development and reduce wars. It will also cause boredom and problem for the NC and their pilots (leadership not as much as controlling such assets is for leadership persons always fun). No more real wars where something is on the stake means less emotional involvement and less risk in outcome = even less incentives to do something.

Anyone trying to go their won way would risk a potentional failure, like Goons did in Delve year ago. Any leader and those from NC/Goons are extremely risk adversed. Why would they give up their positions in exchange in uncertain and risky future just cause its more fun for the rest of the universe. And sofar the winning concept has been the same. Stay together and mass more and more people around and conquest territory.

I think at some moment even the players within the alliances will get bored and hopefully at that point the power will be reshuffled to a new potential new start. I like wars and chaos, and most of all, a chance for everyone to take down the others. Once i see inbalance like – i can kill you but you can´t me, its sign of game heading the wrong way.

Leadership of the decade
I hope there will be enough people bored with that within NC to shake the numbers and create more choices as that is only hope for real sov wars and epic battles. This can only happen when and if the current leadership persons leave the game as thats waht it keeps all together. Till than the status quo will be kept.

Whole Eve is controlled by maximum 10 people nowadays, these are the ruling body of the game. Wars, alliances and evolution are in their hands. These people have been in game for years, working together and forging friendships. You won´t get there and i can´t yet foresee a situation, where things would get out of their control.

They have reached the endgame and i think, they can´t like the status quo that is coming neither. But they can´t accept defeat in any way, as this doesn´t fit their mental image of winners. Champions of Eve that reached what they wanted in life in game and that goes to all leadership persons.

My hope is for never ending war and young new fresh faces breaking into the leadership of Eve (which can only happen after current generation is out) and coming with new ways who can fight who, who is enemy and who is friend :)

There is no such things as "too big to fail" in EVE. Territorial alliances are predators in the EVE alliance ecosystem. When they run of "prey" to make war upon they will turn on each other.

However failing of the NC in the immediate future seems unlikely at best, as there is still DRF forces practically next door. I would not hold my breath over it going seriously territorial anytime soon, well perhaps other than DRF trying to take geminate and NC trying to take Kalevala, but it is not really in either party interest to really kill other one, as their memberships need close enough roaming targets for 'good fights' or the pvp cores of alliances bleed out and half year later you would have soft and wobbly entities composed of fat that just oozes away when coming under pressure.

You know what's going to happen? Heaps of smaller alliances are going to be sucked into a sov Vacuum after IT chucks it in. This will cause ALOT of micro sov wars and sooner or latter they will form their own coalitions. With out IT to fight all the reagions up north will start to turn on eachother, allies will be enemies, enemies will be friends and they will be too preoccupied with themselves to worry about the SouthEast block. And you know what happens then? BOOM! whatever the fuck IT change their name to, will play on the termoil to take back Delve and sorrounds, then 6months later the North will band together and drive them away again thus restarting the never-ending cycle.

New alliances being able to break into 0.0 space was dead a long time ago. The only reason that TEST managed to get a foothold, was through the good graces of the Goons. Without them being given what they have, it wouldn't have taken place.

End game of eve is slowly dying, and unless something game breaking happens, I really only see downhill stale content from here on in.

If you're in any way seriously still intrigued by eve, at the very fucking least try to grasp the skill and effort it takes to manage a multi-alliance and multiethnic coalition of (apparently) 60k players.

The reason that the NC is currently going strong is exactly because they manage that. Tech moons are a fluke that will disappear soon, huge numbers are a symptom of having a huge coalition. The reason they're winning is because to fight the NC, you need a strong coalition as well, and people have either been completely unable to maintain one, or have shown no interest in starting one.

The first possible impact on the NC stability will be when a major leadership change happens in one of the big NC entities.

I feel that since IT is losing, it should cancel PL's contract. If the game is indeed headed the way the article describes, I don't believe that the Mittani is just going to sit back and do nothing. He doesn't seem that kind of person to me. I believe that once he knows he has a Supercap fleet to match razor/MM, it's ON! So all IT is doing by contracting PL, is delaying shit from hitting the fan. (Although I don't believe PL has been extremely successful with their CSAA destruction.)

  7. Nonsense.

Czech ignores the fact that, as of yesterday, the DRF and their renting affiliates controlled roughly 750 systems. The Northern Coalition (Morsis Mihi, RAGE, Majesta Empire, Razor Alliance and Stella Polaris, Wildly Inappropriate, et al) collectively control about 280 systems. Adding Deklein Coalition's systems to Nothern's only adds about 120 systems to that side of the equation.

While IT has been imploding, White Noise and Red Alliance have been quietly raiding the losing sides space, adding systems to their already oversized ISK farm.

Further, if you look at the alliance population to number of systems ratio, the Northern Coalition has about 56 players for every system owned. The DRF, not including renters, has 12 players per system owned. If you throw in their DRF renter alliances and systems, that ratio goes to 21 players per system owned.

In other words, in the last year the DRF has turned half of nullsec into an ISK generating machine for a relatively small number of players.

Czech, help me understand why you're so quick to pass over this.

IMHO, there are two possible ways to make game more interesting:
    1. Make moon materials expendable. Let’s say once a month some moons become cheap, the other become more valuable (i.e. moon material ‘grows’). The result is the need to fight for moons/sov in another place. This may be the cause for migration and wars.
    2. CCP will reincarnate IT under another name again, like they did with BoB. Game needs ‘bad boys’, no hero may be without evil, so the game needs IT/Bob/whatever.

A year ago Goonswarm held no space and was on the edge of disbanding. WI. had lost its space to an invasion that NC couldn't repel and had a smattering of systems given to it out of charity. TEST did not yet exist. And we all know the outcome of Max2, but it was a lot closer than history makes it out.

The future will bring things we do not expect.

The only way i can see someone stopping the NC and causing internal drama, is to win multiple great victories against their major super capital fleet.

They can gather about 200+ capital fleet no problem, with possibly even half of that fleet super caps maybe more if they wanted.

No super cap pilot is afraid flying their ships in the massive fleets.
NC is undoubtedly the most experienced capital fleet out there, their regular fleet fucks up a lot, but who cares about that anymore, it's just good training for their grunts and losing a fleet isn't even news worthy anymore these days unless they are capitals.

With the massive time coverage paired, there is just nothing out there that can stop that steamroller.

Becoming stagnant is also very bad for the NC.
Core leadership knows this all to well and won't let that happen.

Core leadership are the most powerful and prolly the most rich people in eve, they would be the last people i expect leaving EVE Online or NC.
Also i hear they are a tight group of friends, just don't quote me on that though.

So, if they win against IT, then drone regions are probably going to be next just because, but they will need to shoot something if it's not them.

So yea, either south + Russians group up and hit the NC steamroller hard, or pack your bags.
Would love to be proven wrong but i'm only stating the facts as i see them.

The future situation, i guess it will be:

1.NC and Goons get a standing reset to neutral.
Which will mean roaming in goons space and vice versa, but no sov warfare.
Roaming PVP to keep the pilots on their toes.

Imagine what will happen with materials for building ships: they wont sell anymore, a stock pile of useless ships, materials and so on.

    2. NC wont expand beyond the current borders, Goons will take Delve, standings between NC and Goons remain. This means NC won't attack any other region for sov.

This only sentence truly hold the whole key of the situation and the reason why eve will never be frozen.

Your whole article is based on the fact that players are happy to be together and enjoy the lead of 10 people. This is actually so wrong, and so far from what makes human beings so 'humans' …!

It won't take long until the ego of some directors will guide them to have their own plans, their own views on what should be the way their alliance should behave to take more and more moons, more and more systems … There's no way the map will be fixed for more than few month, betrayals and strategies are here, in the dark, waiting for the best time to strike.

  20. It's pl's fault

Macro russians control far more star systems, write an article about their RMT empire and how they systematically knock out every entity…friend or foe…in the south to get more space for macros. No one seems to notice their advance.

And btw. I think the main ones responsible for a stagnant 0.0 space are Pandemic Legion. Always If one big group attacks someone, pl is 'hired' and stabs the advancing forces in the back. They rape their home space and infrastructure and soon the attacker usually has to abort the campaign to save the homelands. Consequences are bordedom and stagnation.
Happened as IT&South attacked the north…happended as NC headed for Drone Russians. PL also helped the macro alliances with their supers and killed many entities in the South (Atlas, Pets etc.) to create boring, uniform macro-space where everyhting warps safe as soon as a red or even blue enters system.

Without pl alot of interesting sov wars would have happened. The map down south would still be populated by alot living alliances.

Guys, NC won't fall apart any time soon… So far, I haven't seen anyone from Goonswarm command talking about leaving Deklein for Delve. GSF feels good as leader of western NC and this Deklein/Cloud Ring/Fountain empire probably won't expand anywhere in near future. And whoever might settle in Delve, will be the next target for pew pew. :]

Also the rest of NC won't turn on each other – nearly everyone feels quite comfortable where they are and with current allies, fighting each other makes no sense, because these alliances rely on NAP and mutual help against enemies. MM and RZR have power and secure space, RAGE/Majesta need rest of NC against Russians (if they ever try to invade with full power, usually it's just Krutoj saying how scary and powerfull DRF is and how they will take Geminate within next few weeks, but still, Russians can be potencialy dangerous…), MH is too lazy to breake the NAP, Pure Blind alliances feel safe under MM's and MH's protection, Goons rely on NC supercaps… It just all work together too well to breake so easily. It might happen one day, but even if, it will take a long time. :]

And as someone said earlier, there's always someone that tries to attack NC. If it's not some huge power, it's raider alliances like Triumvirate or Pandemic Legion. It will never be THAT BORING, there's always something to fight. Maybe only for Razor it's damn boring, the only enemy they have close ot their space is… Intrepid Crossing. And even killing IRC on roams get boring quite fast. ;p

I was an NC grunt, I got bored. I was an IT grunt, I got bored. I had more fun fighting the mindless hordes of BFFs because I don't play a game set in a dangerous sci- fi setting to sit comfortably in a giant coalition safe in the knowledge that I don't have to think or worry bout failure.

NC pilots have lost the essential element to this game: Risk vs Reward.

Now I'm a sovless pilot in a smaller alliance of pilots who farm your ratters and defense fleets daily. I see plenty of our kind in your local. Sometimes we even share intel even though we don't know each other and are far from blue to each other.

I'll keep doing this until someone puts out a call for the barbarians to sack Rome. When that happens I will be there in the thick of it; drunk and wreckless.

Its been interesting reading thru the article and the comments but I think most of you are trying to peer into the future instead of using your noggin. Lets start at the beginning but keep it simple.
    1. Eve is a sandbox type game with mostly player ran economy.
    2. A relatively small group of intelligent players control large aspects of this economy.
    3. These intelligent players know that a stagnant Eve leads to stagnant profits.
    4. These intelligent players know that a backstabbing/girlfriend stealing / I touched your mom in a naughty place Eve leads to a vibrant economy with with vast potential for profit.
    5. These intelligent players tend to have like their profits and will engineer situations that will make their profits grow.
    6. CCP Devs cannot let Eve die because they need their pay to their large bar tabs.

Ok thats as simple as I can make it and………….my fingers are tired from typing.
By the way, Its also just as likely the Cluster F*** Motard Nation will forget to take their meds and do something so stupid the rest of Eve will take away their One shared braincell and make them live in Providence with Molle as their babysitter.

I think the NC wont be resetting each other any time soon. And if they do it´ll probably just be for some good fights and as soon as anyone farts in the general direction of their space they´ll blue each other up again and go blob. This wont be of much joy for the players that are not in the NC.

    So what will happen?

I don't think the russian bears in the east will do anything more then to roam the NC. I think they lack the organization to be a serious threat. If the NC decides to invade, the russians probably fight one big battle and then fall apart if they lose it. They have held their space a long time and are not used to losing ships and I think they lack some experience when it comes to modern SOV warfare.

I think EVE will be very stagnate for a few months. Players in the NC need to settle those conquered systems and wont be fighting for SOV for a while after and if Delve goes down. What will be interesting to watch is what will become of the IT members. Last time they lost Delve they did it without really being able to defend it when the alliance got disbanded. This time around they lost it because they were not able to organize themselves in the way needed. I think they realized their lack of a good organization and perhaps they´ll rebuild and come back stronger then ever.

I also wonder where all the Atlas and friends went after their downfall. Those guys in Atlas seemed to have a good thing going and enjoying themselves. I don't consider it impossible for them to come back as well. If the players have good memories from the time they flew together, they want those old days back.

So I´d say after a few month of organization we will see some major SOV warfare again. My bet is that TEST alliance will be the only NC alliance to fall. As I understand it they have many pilots who just see it as a fun thing and not an alliance they want to fly with permanently, and therefor they´ll start losing members as soon as the IT campaign comes to an end.

Feel free to comment with your thoughts =)
